Lead Radiology Surgical Tech (FT- 1.0 FTE, Day Shift)

Position Summary: 

The Lead Radiology Surgical Technologist provides specialized imaging services within the surgical environment to support safe and effective patient care. This position serves as the liaison between surgical service lines and radiology, ensuring appropriate utilization of imaging resources during operative procedures. Responsibilities include performing radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, assisting with intraoperative imaging guidance, and coordinating training, competency, and quality standards for radiology technologists in the surgical setting.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of a Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA)–accredited Radiology Program.
  • Current Montana Radiologic Technologist license.
  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a surgical radiology or interventional radiology environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience training or precepting staff or students in radiologic procedures.

Essential Job Functions:  In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.

  • Coordinates and oversees surgical imaging operations, ensuring timely availability and use of C-arm and other radiology equipment.
  • Provides specialized radiologic imaging support for complex surgical procedures, including orthopedic spine, vascular, and interventional cases.
  • Performs radiographic and fluoroscopic exams, including intraoperative guidance, as requested by surgeons and providers.
  • Supports patient positioning and preparation for radiologic procedures in collaboration with the surgical team.
  • Performs documentation for interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of imaging studies.
  • Manages radiology-related quality and safety processes, including lead apron inspections and dosimetry badge distribution.
  • Trains, mentors, and evaluates radiology surgical technologists, students, and new hires on operative imaging techniques.
  • Develops, implements, and updates training programs and competencies for surgical radiology imaging.
  • Collaborates with surgical and radiology leadership to optimize workflows, reduce case delays, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Participates in hospital quality improvement activities and contributes to process innovation across radiology and surgical teams.
  • Provides patient education related to pre- and post-procedure care.
  • Serves as a back-up technologist in the radiology department as needed to ensure continuity of services.

Schedule Requirements

  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

Infectious diseases are caused by contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses. Emotionally challenging situations, such as dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
