About Global Risk

 

The Global Risk team in Fidelity covers the management oversight of Fidelity’s risk profile, including key risk frameworks, policies and procedures and oversight and challenge processes. The team partner with the businesses to ensure Fidelity manages its risk profile within defined risk appetite. The team comprises risk specialists covering all facets of risk management, including investment, financial, non-financial and strategic risk. As part of a broader General Counsel team, the Risk team collaborates closely with Compliance, Legal, Tax and Corporate Sustainability colleagues.

 

 

About Risk Data Analytics Hub

 

The vision of Risk Data Analytics Hub is to establish a data-centric risk function that is forward-thinking, resilient, and proactive. The hub's mission is to enhance risk management processes and unlock innovative opportunities in the ever-changing risk and business landscape. The Hub has made significant strides in the Investment Risk, delivering prominent contributions such as the Fund Performance Monitoring, Fund Aggregate Exposures, Fund Market Risk, Fund Liquidity Risk, and other comprehensive monitoring and reporting dashboards. These tools have been crucial in supporting risk oversight and regulatory submissions. The Hub's goal is to scale this capability across global risk, using data-driven insights to uncover hidden patterns and predict emerging risks. This will enable decision-makers to prioritise actions that align with business objectives. The approach is to dismantle silos and foster collaboration across the global risk team, introducing new tools, techniques, and innovation themes to enhance agility.

 

 

 

About your role


The primary function of the role is to develop and support enterprise grade reporting solutions and business analytics using Python and SQL/TSQL, connecting to complex and high-volume data sources. As a senior member of the Risk Data Analytics Hub, a central capability across the Global Risk function, you will not only deliver technical solutions but also provide technical direction, governance and guidance to the team. You will partner closely with business and key stakeholders across FIL (Fidelity International) locations, ensuring collaboration and alignment to deliver the desired business outcomes while setting standards for best practices and innovation within the team.

 

 

 

About you

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Lead Python Developer, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end development of Python code which will act as a business layer (adapters) for our various reporting solutions for different risk teams within Global Risk function. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Python programming, database management, and keen interest in modern data analytics and data science practices, with hands-on experience on Oracle, SQL Server and Snowflake as data storage. This role involves developing and optimizing our data analytics and data science aspirations, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability. This role will entail:

 

  • Collaborate with global stakeholders and SMEs to capture requirements and convert into technical tasks

  • Lead the design, development, and integration of Python-based applications and data pipelines, ensuring seamless operation within our infrastructure.

  • Manage, optimize, and troubleshoot databases, particularly SQL Server, Oracle and Snowflake, ensuring data integrity, high availability, and performance.

  • Develop and implement automated processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) to streamline data workflows.

  • Work closely with data analysts, business analysts, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver robust data solutions that meet business needs.

  • Mentor and guide fellow developers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence.

  • Perform required data analysis using SQL and Excel for complex datasets to understand data grain as per requirements.

  • Ensure adherence to best practices in coding standards, data management, security, and regulatory compliance.

  • Well versed with version management on Github and managing releases to various environments.

  • Conduct performance tuning of Python applications and SQL queries to ensure optimal performance of data processing tasks.

  • Understanding of data lake platforms and coding practices for connection, retrieval and transformation efficiently using  Python and native-SQL.

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues related to Python applications and database systems.

  • Building understanding of all upstream data sources, and the granularity of data relevant for business domain.

  • Well versed with AGILE methodologies and release management principles

 

 

Experience and Qualifications Required

 

  • 6-8 years of experience in Python development and database management, with a strong track record of delivering complex data-driven solutions.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Prior or current experience of working with Data Visualization developers is additional plus

  • Understanding of data models and how they are designed/constructed

  • Understanding of Investment Management or past experience working for or at an Investment/Asset Manager

 

 

 

Essential Skills

 

  • Strong background in Python programming, database development, and keen interest in data science, with a particular focus on Oracle 12C and SQL Server.

  • Well-versed in writing complex SQL (Structured Query Language) statements with multiple joins and optimising skills

  • Familiarity with version control systems, preferably Git.

  • Understanding of software development best practices and design patterns.

  • Extensive experience with Oracle / SQL Server and Snowflake, including database design, optimization, and performance tuning.

  • Proven ability to design, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and database structures.

  • Knowledge of Investment Management domain, Financial Capital markets, Types of Assets, Trading life cycle, Funds management etc.

  • Data Analytics knowledge - Ability to understand, analyse complex data sets

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong stakeholder management

  • High degree of proficiency in MS Excel (strong knowledge of power pivot, data sorting, filters, etc). Ability to develop complex models and data structures, including macros, will be of advantage

  • Managing data from multiple sources in excel, CSV or MS Access like tactical data management solutions

  • Good understanding of Data Quality and Data management frameworks

  • Ability to work with stakeholders at multiple levels and high degree of comfort in working with ambiguity and under pressure, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks

  • Self-motivated with an eagerness to learn Investment Risk Domain and a positive work ethic

  • Exposure to data engineering is must.

 

 

Desirable Skills

 

  • Certifications in Python, databases, or data science, such as OCP (Oracle Certified Professional), PCAP (Python Certified Associate Programmer), or similar.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in Data Science and ML/Ops - building, deploying, and maintaining ML models in production environments.

  • Experience of implementing end-to-end data pipelines, utilizing advanced statistical techniques and automation tools to improve data-driven decision making.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, particularly in relation to data storage and processing.

  • Experience on Snowflake and data lakes would be an advantage

  • Exposure to big data technologies like Hadoop or Spark.

  • Experience of the asset management industry would be an advantage

  • Experience based domain knowledge of Risk management, regulatory compliance or operational compliance functions would be an advantage

  • Basic knowledge and know how of Data Science and its application.

  • Focussed on providing high level customer service across various geographical areas
