About the role

Lead Principal engineer - Chemical and Process12-month Max Term opportunity

The purpose of the role is to provide enterprise-wide technical leadership in chemical, process, and process safety disciplines across AGL. The role ensures that critical AGL decisions are made using evidence-based, scientifically robust, and risk-informed approaches, and that chemical, process, and process safety risks across the Integrated Energy fleet are effectively identified, managed, and reduced. This role also provides functional leadership of the Process Safety team, ensuring consistent application of process safety principles, standards, and governance across AGL assets.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide enterprise‑wide technical leadership in chemical, process, and process safety disciplines across AGL’s Integrated Energy portfolio.

  • Ensure critical business and asset decisions are informed by evidence‑based, scientifically robust, and risk‑informed technical advice.

  • Lead the identification, assessment, and reduction of chemical and process safety risks across AGL assets and operations.

  • Lead all areas of Cycle Chemistry at AGL

  • Lead and coach other in ICAM and other RCA Processes,

  • Provide functional leadership of the Process Safety team, building capability, consistency, and technical excellence across the organisation.

  • Act as a trusted technical authority and advisor to senior leaders, supporting safe, compliant, and sustainable operation of AGL’s energy assets.

What we would like to see you bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in science, preferably Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

  • Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist, or equivalent recognised professional accreditation.

  • Expert knowledge of power station chemistry, with a strong understanding of chemical and process safety principles.

  • Deep expertise in the scientific method, applying rigorous, evidence‑based analysis to complex technical and risk decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across a complex, matrixed organisation, engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience in chemistry or process safety within the power industry or comparable heavy industry, with confidence presenting to and advising senior leaders.
