KBR is looking for a Lead Vessel Design Specialist position to be a part of Wilmington Operations Center (WOC) Mechanical Engineering Department and reports to the Mechanical Department Manager. In this role, you will be expected to have visibility directly with the entire Engineering Leadership Team (ELT) in Wilmington as well as across KBR’s offices worldwide. You will also be expected to have demonstrated experience in both pressure vessels and field erected tanks across various industries such as oil & gas, chemicals, biofuels and biochemicals and power.  You will work across all clients and industries, including but not necessarily limited to chemicals, specialty chemicals, oil and gas industries, refineries, bio-fuels, bio-chemicals and alternative energy industries such as carbon capture and hydrogen.

This role is expected to function in a hybrid work environment and must have the ability to travel to client sites.

Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical assurance and design expertise for projects that affect all stationary equipment, which may include the selection, specification, design, construction, and start-up of ASME pressure vessels, shop and field erected flat bottom tanks (API 650 / 620) and other complex vessel designs.

  • Knowledge of API, ASME and PIP codes and assistance to ensure projects and/or equipment meets industry codes, engineering practices and specifications.

  • Provide advice on vessel and tank design details to our process engineering department when required.

  • As one of Wilmington’s office team leaders for stationary equipment, you will be expected to provide overall leadership across all projects and participate in KBR’s Pressure Vessel Network of specialists.

  • Resolve highly complex vessel design problems with the suppliers during design and fabrication.

  • Provide technical oversight for all projects across the office including work share with high value centers.

  • Train and mentor early-to-mid career engineers in all aspects of the stationary equipment’s life cycle.

  • Take lead on other related strategic initiatives for the Mechanical department when requested.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Preferred Bachelors’ in Mechanical Engineering or another related field.

  • 10+ years (minimum) of experience in EPC industry. Will consider experience with chemical site team or project engineering backgrounds in related industries. Operations or Maintenance and Reliability experience is a plus.

  • Professional Engineering License (P.E.) is preferred.

  • Demonstrated competence in pressure vessel and field erected tank design software.

  • Experience with ASME VIII 2 UDS preparation and design by analysis rules a plus.

  • Fitness for service, FMECA, FEA, CFD analytical skills are considered a plus.

  • Working knowledge of other engineering disciplines and the ability to coordinate with them to meet design requirements.

  • Ability to travel as needed to survey client sites.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with supervisory experience.
