Lead Power Systems Engineer

Brisbane Full time

Lead Power Systems Engineer

Everything is an adventure for the curious mind. At Aurecon, we turn curiosity into real-world outcomes. Join us and use your expertise to foster innovation, navigate complexity with care, and co-create projects that deliver meaningful, lasting change.

Your role

As a Lead Engineer in our Queensland Energy Tean, you'll guide purposeful work that supports the future of the energy sector. Collaborating with a diverse, multidisciplinary team, you’ll explore integrated solutions, offer thoughtful perspectives, and partner with clients to help them build a more sustainable world.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and empowering a diverse, high-performing team – guide and support specialists who help connect renewable generation, storage and hybrid projects to the NEM.
  • Providing trusted grid advisory services – help clients navigate connection strategy, generator performance standards, system strength considerations and registration, with a focus on practical, inclusive problem-solving.
  • Driving excellence in power system modelling – oversee the use of industry-standard tools (PSS®E, PSCAD, PowerFactory and OEM models) while coaching the team to build capability and confidence.
  • Empowering energy transformation – work with purpose alongside clients and colleagues to deliver projects that contribute to a cleaner, more reliable and more equitable energy future.
  • Collaborating across disciplines – partner with engineering, commercial, digital, advisory and environmental teams to co-create solutions to complex system needs.
  • Championing quality and continuous improvement – refine modelling approaches, uplift capability and foster a learning culture that supports career development.
  • Supporting growth and wellbeing – mentor team members, promote inclusive practices, and contribute to business development through authentic relationship-building.

What you’ll bring

You blend technical expertise with empathy, communication and inclusive leadership. You enjoy helping others grow and thrive in dynamic environments. You’ll also have:

  • Experience in power systems or grid connection – you may have 15+ years in consulting, utilities, developers or operations, or you may bring a slightly different mix of experience that aligns with grid advisory and modelling work.
  • Strong capability in grid connection modelling – experience with PSS®E, PSCAD, PowerFactory or equivalent tools, and an understanding of generation control systems.
  • A collaborative and supportive leadership style – you engage confidently with clients and colleagues, value diverse perspectives, and create environments where people do their best work.
  • Relevant electrical engineering qualifications – and RPEQ registration (or willingness to obtain).
  • A commitment to Aurecon’s Attributes – inquisitive, resourceful, co-creative, engaging, commercially aware, and a sense-maker who is open to new ideas.
  • Flexibility and curiosity – a willingness to travel occasionally and support site-based roles when needed, balanced by the flexibility you need to manage life outside work.
