Portfolio Management

This new to be established team focuses on understanding and steering the drivers of portfolio margin development, portfolio development in relation to credit risk creating tools to monitor and assess the impact of business decisions for both ING and WUB. It involves researching and advising on solutions to ensure margin stability and improvement. It takes ownership of client behavioural inputs under various market scenarios and applies expert judgment on attrition and prepayments. Additionally, it defines and justifies model inputs (e.g., segmentation, pricing strategy, and prepayment rates) while assessing implications for hedging, P&L, and both market and credit risk and presenting proposals to ALCO. (The dotted line in the organizational chart emphasizes that the CoE Pricing and Portfolio Management are closely organized, with the CoE Lead Pricing as a permanent member of the Mortgages NL Leadership Team.)

Purpose of the job

You establish and lead the new Portfolio Management function within ING Mortgages NL , taking full ownership of an € 130 B portfolio (including WUB) and its profit and loss. This role sets the standards for portfolio management excellence and drives the development, innovation, and retention of expertise within the team. Responsibilities include building and guiding a team of specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, understanding drivers of portfolio margin and creating tools to monitor and calculate the impact of business decisions for ING and WUB, researching and advising on strategies to ensure margin stability and improvement, while  applying expert judgment on client behaviour and market scenarios, owning key model inputs and proposing changes with clear justification to ALCO, ensuring alignment with hedging, risk, and profitability objectives.

This position demands strategic vision, technical depth, and the ability to influence sr. stakeholders, while building a resilient team capable of delivering data-driven decisions and sustainable business performance. It requires a recognized authority in financial risk management, challenging assumptions, and improving processes, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Roles and responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities can be succinctly summarized in six key areas:  portfolio management expertise, stakeholder relationships, leadership, data-driven decision making, risk modelling, and

performance management:
You build and further develop knowledge and expertise in portfolio management, including designing and implementing a formal framework for the team.

  • You establish and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with strategic internal stakeholders, acting as a credible business partner and driving strategic change initiatives.
  • You provide leadership and direction by leveraging data-driven insights to detect market and customer behaviour shifts, develop predictive models, and present strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • You drive data-driven insights and strategic decisions through accurate portfolio margin forecasts, scenario analyses, and actionable insights for senior management.
  • You design and develop risk scenario models and strategic frameworks to guide policy decisions and translate business priorities into clear policies and procedures.
  • You monitor and report on the performance of the Portfolio Management role, set measurable objectives, ensure accountability, and take corrective action to achieve business targets.


These responsibilities are reflected in KPIs on e.g., implementation of the portfolio management framework and team capability growth, stakeholder satisfaction and successful execution of strategic initiatives, development and approval of predictive models and strategic recommendations, accuracy of portfolio margin forecasts and timely delivery of actionable insights, development and impact of risk scenario models and policy frameworks and achievement of team objectives, quality of performance reports, and accountability for business targets.

This role calls for a strategic, analytically driven leader who sets the standard for portfolio management excellence and delivers sustainable business performance

  • You bring a master’s level background in econometrics or mathematics, with deep expertise in financial risk, portfolio management, and commercial pricing.
  • You have at least 10 years of working experience in pricing of mortgages, e.g., monitoring and reporting on performance, setting measurable objectives, and ensuring accountability.
  • You have extensive experience in designing and implementing formal portfolio management frameworks regarding mortgages, including the development and approval of predictive models, risk scenario analyses, and strategic recommendations for senior management and ALCO.
  • You have a track record in building trust-based relationships with senior stakeholders, acting as a credible business partner, and driving strategic change initiatives such as hedging transitions and margin improvement programs.
  • You have demonstrated expertise in leveraging data-driven insights to detect market and customer behaviour shifts, develop advanced predictive models, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations that influence business strategy and performance.
  • You have proven success in challenging assumptions, improving processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, with tangible results in sustainable business performance.
