Job Summary: This position has been designated as an Essential Position (e.g., snow emergency days, holidays, increased security periods, national emergency). The position cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission. Assignments may be performed at any job site within the organization.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: To qualify for a Lead Police Officer, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Experience leading lower graded officers, discussing individual assignments, and reviewing reports and records for completeness and accuracy. B. Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands - The work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, standing, bending or driving and occasionally lifting, pushing and/or carrying items weighing 50 pounds or more. Requires stamina, physical agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend or detain. The incumbent may be required to push or drag heavy weights of 150 pounds or more. The incumbent is required to exemplify the physical characteristic of agility in the performance of his/her duties. DoD and DLA regulations require at a minimum an initial and annual physical fitness test. The individual will also undergo routine training in defensive tactics, active shooter/hostage response, handcuffing and firearms qualifications which require physical agility, dexterity and stamina. Work Environment - The work is performed in an environment which involves exposure to regular and recurring discomforts such as extreme variations in weather conditions while directing traffic and performing walking patrols. The incumbent may be exposed to high levels of noise in certain industrial settings, destructive weather or higher Force Protection conditions. The work involves moderate and high risks and possible endangerment of life or serious injury that requires the exercise of safety precautions and use of protective clothing, gear and devices such as coats, gloves, boots, goggles, masks, shields, etc. Incumbent may also be subject to uncomfortable conditions where basic facilities may not be provided or functional.
