Lead Platform Software Engineer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Platform Software Engineer to join the Fraud and Claims Technology (FCT) team within the COO Technology organization. This team plays a vital role in delivering reliable, scalable, and resilient technology that supports critical operational processes and customer outcomes across the enterprise.

The FCT team is actively engaged in modernization efforts aimed at evolving legacy capabilities into modern, service‑based architectures. These initiatives focus on improving system reliability, scalability, performance, and integration across upstream and downstream platforms. As part of this work, the team is strengthening its Generative AI capabilities to support fraud detection and prevention while operating within a highly regulated environment.

In this role, you will lead and contribute hands‑on to the design and development of backend and middleware services supporting Fraud, Claims, and Recovery platforms. You will work closely with engineering, product, and platform partners to deliver systems that operate at enterprise scale and support critical business outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex engineering initiatives within assigned technology domains
  • Design, develop, test, and implement applications, services, and system components using modern software engineering practices
  • Ensure platform reliability through monitoring, observability, and proactive risk mitigation
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, optimize resource utilization, and reduce operational cost
  • Resolve complex coding, testing, and production issues
  • Lead teams to ensure compliance, security, and risk management requirements are met
  • Partner with risk, governance, and control stakeholders to implement key initiatives
  • Mentor and coach software engineers and promote engineering best practices
  • Collaborate with and influence peers, managers, and cross‑functional partners
  • Partner with production support and platform engineering teams to ensure operational stability

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience building enterprise‑scale backend systems using Java and modern backend frameworks and architectures, such as Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and distributed systems
  • 3+ years of experience with event‑driven architecture, such as Apache Kafka or Confluent platforms
  • 2+ years of experience deploying and running applications on container platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift
  • 2+ years of experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases such as SQL Server or MongoDB

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience building or integrating Generative AI‑enabled solutions, including Retrieval‑Augmented Generation and agentic workflows
  • Experience in enterprise or solution architecture
  • Experience working with AI MCPs and agents
  • Experience applying Domain Driven Design principles
  • Hands‑on experience with GenAI developer tools such as GitHub Copilot
    Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and enterprise‑grade agentic workflows
  • Experience integrating large language models and APIs, including RESTful API design
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments using tools such as GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, and Confluence
  • Experience with React.js or other modern frontend frameworks
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
