The Lead Outreach Phlebotomy Technician supports the Team Leader by coordinating the daily operations of outreach phlebotomy staff. This team supports the Sales Outreach Department within the Lab and plays a vital role in providing mobile phlebotomy services to nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and other care facilities. Team members are responsible for drawing blood, as well as picking up and delivering specimens to designated hubs.
A caregiver in this position works Monday–Friday, 4:00am—12:30pm. No weekends.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Performing phlebotomy and processing duties.
Assisting with supervisory responsibilities.
Monitoring and ensuring timely specimen collection and processing.
Distributing and balancing workload among traveling phlebotomists and lab processing staff.
Facilitate development & training for new staff and peer sponsor during their new hire period.
Assist with supervisory duties when needed.
Participate in hiring process as well as input on employee performance, including corrective actions and evaluations.
Assist the Team Lead in developing, training and delivering educational programs for both the traveling outreach phlebotomy team and our Extended Care Clients.
Build a strong working relationship with internal and/or external customers to meet their needs.
Travel to patient locations, these include but are not limited to client’s facilities, and house calls.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Graduation certificate from a formal accredited Phlebotomy program
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross must be presented upon hire or within the first 3 months of employment
A current, valid Driver License is required as well as personal auto liability insurance coverage with the limits of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident on bodily injury, and $100,000 in property liability damage
2 years of (current) phlebotomy experience
Experienced and proficient in blood collection from all patients. (EX: Senior Nursing Facilities, Rehabilitation Centers, Assisted Living Facilities, or private homes)
Experienced with the handling/transport of Laboratory specimens, laboratory safety, medical terminology and laboratory waste management
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate’s Degree
ASCP Phlebotomy Certification
Leadership experience
3 years of relevant experience with leadership
Physical Requirements:
Requires frequent standing and walking.
Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.
Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
This position is primarily traveling in nature.
The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds
Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination
Working irregular hours including On-call hours
Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
Pushing and pulling heavy objects
Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
