Not RequiredWe are seeking a skilled MEMS Microfabrication Technician to support our MEMS Design Engineering group. In this hands-on role, you will serve as the critical bridge between device design concepts and physical silicon results — planning, executing, and reporting on wafer processing experiments that directly advance our development programs. You will build deep expertise in silicon processing, gain exposure to cutting-edge MEMS technologies, and have a meaningful impact on device outcomes.
What You Will Do:
Process Development & Wafer Processing Write, test, and optimize recipes for silicon microfabrication unit processes including photolithography, etching (wet and dry/RIE/DRIE), thin film deposition, thermal oxidation, and metrology.
Execute wafer processing sequences in the cleanroom fab following traveler documentation, managing experimental lot status, process splits, and lot genealogy.
Monitor process health, perform basic troubleshooting, and escalate equipment or process deviations to design engineers.
Inspection & Characterization Perform wafer and chip inspection using optical microscopy, profilometry, SEM, and other metrology tools; document results with images and quantitative measurements.
Support microelectronic packaging activities including chip handling, die attach, wire bonding preparation, and package-level inspection.
Design of Experiments (DOE) & Data Analysis Collaborate with design engineers to design, set up, and execute structured DOEs characterizing process windows, optimizing performance, or investigating failure modes.
Collect, organize, and analyze process and metrology data; compile and present findings and recommended follow-up actions to the engineering team.
Lab & Equipment Coordination Coordinate fab equipment scheduling with Production and other user groups to ensure efficient utilization.
Maintain accurate process logs, traveler records, and lab notebooks in compliance with quality systems.
Assist with equipment qualification, preventive maintenance, and readiness assessments.
Manage inventory of process chemicals, consumables, and wafer material for experimental programs.
What You Will Learn:
Best practices in MEMS design for performance, cost, and manufacturability
How to establish process controls that meet engineering design specifications and system performance metrics
How to prepare and present technical reports to stakeholders
Collaboration skills within cross-functional engineering teams
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience
Minimum 2–5 years of direct silicon wafer processing experience in a cleanroom environment (semiconductor, MEMS, or photonics fab), including demonstrated operation of photolithography tools, RIE/DRIE etchers, LPCVD/PECVD systems, thermal furnaces, or wet benches.
Familiarity with wafer and chip handling best practices and ESD protocols.
Experience collecting, documenting, and summarizing process data; ability to read and follow detailed traveler documents and process specifications.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanroom discipline.
Must be able to obtain security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience with MEMS-specific processes: DRIE/Bosch, anodic bonding, wafer bonding, or release processes
Familiarity with microelectronic packaging: die singulation, die attach, wire bonding, flip-chip, or hermetic packaging
Experience executing structured DOEs and using statistical analysis tools (JMP, Minitab, or equivalent)
Hands-on experience with semiconductor metrology techniques: ellipsometry, profilometry, SEM/EDX, interferometry, or four-point probe
Experience in an R&D fab supporting engineering programs alongside production operations, including process documentation and equipment scheduling across multiple user groups
