Every project has sustainability embedded in decision‑making. And every project reflects our ambition to be at the leading edge of technical excellence. If you’re looking for your next challenge, it comes down to one important question:

What kind of world do you want to create for the next generation?

The decisions we’re making today will shape the future of how people live, learn, work and connect. One of those decisions is: who do you choose to work for?

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

We’re looking for a Lead Mechanical Designer to join our Buildings and Places team, based in Melbourne or Adelaide (with flexible and hybrid working options available). This is a senior technical role for a mechanical design professional who enjoys leading complex design, applying digital‑first approaches, and collaborating closely within multidiscipline project teams. You’ll play a key role in delivering high‑quality mechanical design solutions across major building, infrastructure and precinct projects. Here’s how you’ll bring ideas to life:

  • Lead the planning, design and delivery of complex mechanical design solutions on mid‑size to large projects
  • Provide technical leadership and expert input, driving innovative and efficient design outcomes
  • Apply model‑first, digitally enabled design approaches aligned to Aurecon’s Project Information Management standards
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers and advisors across multidisciplinary teams
  • Champion safe, sustainable and compliant design practices
  • Support project performance across quality, utilisation, margin and delivery
  • Mentor and guide designers and engineers, contributing to capability development and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of digital workflows and design practices
  • Support strong client outcomes and long‑term relationships

What we’re looking for:

  • A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline (degree, diploma or trade background considered)
  • Demonstrated experience delivering mechanical design in a consulting or project‑based environment
  • Strong capability in digital design tools, BIM and model‑based workflows
  • Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary building or infrastructure projects
  • Solid understanding of safety, sustainability, compliance and design quality requirements
  • Ability to lead technical outcomes and influence others, with or without formal line management
  • Strong collaboration, communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Commercial awareness and a commitment to project and business performance

How your future will be shaped by us

At Aurecon, you’ll work on some of Australasia’s most exciting projects while being supported to grow your technical eminence and career. We offer flexible working, a strong focus on wellbeing, and meaningful learning and development opportunities. We’ve been recognised as:
