Job Summary
The Lead Marine Painter / Paint Inspector provides oversight, instruction, and supervision to Painters and Painter Helpers.
Principal Accountabilities
- Oversee and coordinate schedule on service work orders
- Performs the abrasive blasting, priming, and painting of surfaces
- Applies primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces for surface coating/paint
- Inventories, controls and properly stores all necessary paint, solvents, and abrasives
- Inventories, controls and maintains all painting equipment and tools
- Leads the paint shop team during all work performed
- Assists in determining parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment
- Participates with the on-the-job training of junior shop personnel
- Assists in the writing safety anaylsis for each job
- Ensure team operates in compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) system’s and Hazardous Material storage
- Ensure the paint shop team wears the appropriate PPE for the assigned tasks at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge on the application of paint/surface coatings
- Knowledge of measuring surface area to provide accurate estimate of product needed for each job
- Ability to follow all safety requirements, policies, procedures and guidelines
- Ability to lead a team and create a positive work environment
- Knowledge of and ability to perform proper surface preparation by abrasive blasting and mechanical means
- Familiarity working with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems
- Knowledgeable working with hazardous material and its proper storage
- Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years’ experience in paint preparation, painting, sanding and scuffing or related field
- Two (2) years experience working in a supervisory role
- Possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Completion of an Industrial/Commercial painting training program preferred
- Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
