A Brief Overview
Under supervisor's, direction is responsible for accessioning, receiving, specimen processing, and phlebotomy. Responsible for non-technical laboratory duties such as responding to patient and physician inquires, forwarding test results, and distributing reports, sample preparation, equipment and machinery monitoring. Ensure all patient information and testing results are recorded and stored.

What you will do
  • Advises Manager/Pre-Analytical Supervisor of the need for changes in staffing, supplies, equipment, physical facilities, procedures and polices.
  • Assist Manager/Pre-Analytical Supervisor in the timely collection of statistical data for QA monitoring and other business needs.
  • Assists in assuring that laboratory procedures and policies are followed; that work is performed in a timely, accurate manner and of high quality. Ensures that interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and other laboratory staff are cooperative and courteous and that efforts to ensure high quality of information and service to patients and physicians have highest priority.
  • Assists in coordinating distribution and flow of work, ensures timely and accurate handling of specimens and reports in keeping with laboratory policies, objectives and protocols.
  • Assists Manager/Pre-Analytical Supervisor in communicating with personnel, provides support, and informs them of changes affecting policy and procedure. Provides training and orientation to new Lab Assistants
  • Orients new employees to general lab procedures and trains them on non-technical duties.
  • Communicates regularly with Manager/Pre-Analytical Supervisor in order to keep him/her appropriately informed of activities, changes, ergonomic issues and problems, within the laboratory and to ensure that policies, procedures, standards, objectives and activities in which Lab Assistants engage are in keeping with those of the Clinical Laboratories.
  • Must be able to perform all Laboratory Assistant III-P duties in assigned area(s), and provide backup coverage for various positions within assigned area(s).
  • Participates in updating and maintaining procedure manuals pertaining to assigned areas, and acts as a resource for staff regarding policies and procedures, obtaining final approval from Manager/Preanalytical Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Under the direction of supervisor assists in designing and maintaining work schedules for staff in assigned areas, adjusts staffing to match workload.

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics
  • Ability to speak and write English effectively at a level appropriate for the job
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $40.48 - $45.59 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
