Job Summary:  

As a technical leader in our Infrastructure Engineering team, you will lead the strategic direction, development, and maturity of our Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) services. You will have full responsibility for the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Nerdio, and ControlUp platforms, driving innovation and continuous improvement. This role requires building and executing a comprehensive VDI roadmap, advancing platform capabilities, and ensuring the offering evolves to meet business needs, security requirements, and user expectations.  

 

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

  • Lead the advancement and maturity of VDI services, championing best practices for lifecycle management, capacity planning, performance optimization, and user experience. 
  • Design and deploy Azure Virtual Desktop environments tailored to the unique requirements of each business unit, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and security posture. 
  • Own the end-to-end VDI platform, including Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Nerdio, and ControlUp, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security. 
  • Develop, communicate, and execute a strategic roadmap for VDI platform growth, feature adoption, and service maturity. 
  • Collaborate with business units and internal stakeholders to gather requirements, develop technical specifications, and implement solutions that align with business objectives and security standards. 
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and support staff, serving as a subject matter expert in Azure Virtual Desktop, FSLogix, Nerdio Manager, and ControlUp best practices. 
  • Implement robust security measures across virtual desktop infrastructure, including network segmentation, identity and access management, encryption, and threat detection, to safeguard sensitive data and ensure regulatory compliance. 
  • Proactively identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities and compliance risks in virtual desktop environments, conducting regular security assessments and audits to maintain a strong security posture. 
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging threats in cloud security, continuously evaluating and enhancing our security practices and controls to protect client assets and mitigate cyber threats. 

 

Competency Requirements: 

 

  • Strong understanding of cloud computing principles, including virtualization, networking, and security. 
  • Advanced expertise in AVD management platforms such as ControlUp and Nerdio, including platform administration, analytics, and optimization. 
  • Proven leadership in owning and maturing VDI platforms (AVD, Nerdio, ControlUp). 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, value-focused environment, with a commitment to delivering secure and reliable solutions. 
  • Proficiency in multi-tenant configuration and management of Azure Virtual Desktop environments. 
  • Experience in designing and implementing security controls for cloud-based solutions, with a focus on network segmentation, identity and access management, encryption, and threat detection. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with business units and internal stakeholders to gather requirements, develop technical specifications, and implement solutions that align with business objectives and security standards. 

 

 Education and Experience: 

 

  • 3+ years of experience owning and maturing enterprise VDI platforms, including Azure Virtual Desktop and Nerdio. 
  • Demonstrated success in building and executing technical roadmaps. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in configuring and managing Azure Virtual Desktop environments with multi-tenancy considerations, including isolation, resource allocation, and billing. 
  • Extensive knowledge of FSLogix profile management and Office 365 containerization techniques in multi-tenant setups, with a focus on security. 
  • Hands-on experience with Nerdio Manager for WVD or similar management platforms for Azure Virtual Desktop in a multi-tenant context, with strong security controls. 
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty, Azure Solutions Architect, Security certifications) preferred.
