Position Summary:

The Lead Infusion Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting the daily operations of the infusion pharmacy team. This position is responsible for the training, development, and workflow coordination of infusion technician colleagues, ensuring compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards, and maintaining readiness for Joint Commission inspections. The Lead Technician will serve as a liaison with the Lead Sterile Compounding Technician and provide backup coverage during high-volume periods, sick calls, or low staffing situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Training & Development
    • Onboard and train new infusion pharmacy technicians.
    • Provide ongoing education and competency assessments.
    • Support technician growth and development through coaching and mentorship.
  • Workflow Coordination
    • Oversee daily technician workflow to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
    • Adjust assignments and priorities based on staffing and patient needs.
    • Serve as primary backup during peak times or staffing shortages.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance
    • Conduct and document monthly cleaning and inspection assignments.
    • Perform surface sampling and ensure proper documentation.
    • Collaborate with sterile compounding leads to uphold USP <797>/<800> standards.
    • Assist in preparation for Joint Commission and other regulatory audits.
    • Team Leadership
      • Promote accountability and professionalism among the technician team.
      • Act as a liaison between technicians and leadership.
      • Foster a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required.
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., IV Sterile Compounding, Hazardous Drug Management) preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in infusion or sterile compounding pharmacy.
  • Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Strong knowledge of USP <797>/<800> regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, math, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily in cleanroom and infusion preparation areas.
  • May require flexible hours to support staffing needs.
  • Occasional lifting, standing, and use of PPE.
