Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7am to 3:30pm

Supervises the grounds operations at Methodist Women's Hospital and Medical Office Building.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions I

1. Operates and maintains power equipment and manual equipment by using the equipment according the manufacturer's specifications and conducting preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and making repairs to equipment to ensure
equipment is always in good working condition.

2. Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, and landscaping at all Health System facilities by cutting, edging, aerating, trimming, planting, mulching, and other services and by paying attention to detail (weeds in sidewalks, sweeping up mulch) to ensure a professional appearance to patients, visitors, staff, and the general public.

3. Removes snow and treats icy conditions on parking lots, sidewalks, steps, and other assigned locations by using trucks, tractors, bobcats, sanders, hand snow blowers, shovels, and other related tools to provide a safe external environment.

4. Picks up trash and yard waste at Health System facilities by following departmental procedures to ensure a professional appearance to patients, visitors, staff, and the general public.

5. Maintains parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks on Health System properties by power washing and sweeping to ensure a safe environment.

6. Records daily work activity by entering work into the system program (ISIS) to ensure an accurate reporting of work conducted.

7. Performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment by following preventative maintenance policies and procedures to ensure equipment is in working condition.

8. Participates in mandatory in-services and/or continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.

9. Is able to understand and operationalize the mission, vision, core values, Employee Standards of Behavior, and policies/procedures.

10. Assists the System and Team Leader of Plant Operations Maintenance and Grounds (POMG) with management duties, such as hiring, training, coaching, counseling, mentoring, corrective action, terminations, and evaluations, to ensure competent staff within the grounds department

11. Assists the System Leader and Team Leader of Plant Operations Maintenance and Grounds (POMG) with the daily operations of the grounds department by managing staff and identifying any training needs to ensure consistent quality and productivity of employees.

12. Assists the System Leader and Team Leader of POMG with work schedules for assigned staff to ensure duties are covered on a daily basis. Ensures overtime is used appropriately adjusting staffing appropriately to meet work demands.

13. Maintains inventory of parts, supplies, snow and ice melting products by ordering as needed from established vendors to ensure inventory is available for the repair and maintenance of equipment.

14. Negotiates and schedules service and repair work by working with outside vendors to ensure proper and expeditious service. Monitors the work of service contract vendors to ensure contractual obligations are met and completed as per contract.

Job Description:

Job Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) preferred.

Experience

  • 1 – 2 years previous experience operating and maintaining large power equipment required, including Bobcat front-end loaders, 4x4 trucks, power sweepers, snow blowers, large tractors, chainsaws, and weed trimmers.
  • 1 year previous experience in lawn care/horticulture required.
  • 1 year previous maintenance experience in sprinkler systems, automotive, and/or small engine systems required.
  • 1 year previous experience in snow removal required.
  • 1 year previous welding experience preferred.
  • 1 year previous supervisory experience preferred.

License/Certifications

  • Valid and current driver's license required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Knowledge of general grounds maintenance required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers required.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend various written reports and documents required.
  • Able to travel to various locations required.
  • Skilled in planning, delegation, time-management, and problem-solving required.
