Job Title: Senior Google Cloud Platform Engineer (GCP)

Salary: £92,701 - 109,060
Location(s): Bristol / Leeds / Manchester / Halifax
Hours: Full‑time
Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About this opportunity

We’re modernising our technology platforms using public cloud that is secure, resilient, scalable and developer‑friendly. This enables our engineering teams across the bank to deliver better outcomes for customers and supports the growth of our digital channels, data platforms and emerging AI capabilities.

Our core public cloud platform is Google Cloud Platform (GCP), already live and supporting business‑critical workloads, with continued expansion planned.

As part of a product‑aligned, agile engineering team, you’ll help build, evolve and operate the foundational cloud platform services that underpin our technology landscape. You’ll collaborate closely with software engineers, architects and security teams to ensure the platform is reliable, compliant and easy to use.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing, engineering and optimising enterprise‑scale GCP infrastructure and networking
  • Developing and reviewing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform / Terraform Cloud
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins and Harness
  • Developing automation using Python, Bash and/or Groovy
  • Owning cloud services through their full lifecycle (design, build, run, improve)
  • Performing code reviews and helping drive engineering quality and consistency
  • Working collaboratively with architecture, security and software engineering teams
  • Providing BAU operational support, including incident and problem management
  • Mentoring other engineers and supporting planning and technical decision‑making

Why join us?

Join us and give us your best and we’ll give you ours. Here, you’ll make a difference to customers, enjoy a fulfilling career where you’re free to be yourself, and work with great colleagues in modern workspaces — with hybrid working and long‑term career opportunities.

What we’re looking for

Essential skills & experience

  • 5+ years’ experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in production environments
  • 5+ years’ experience designing and supporting cloud networking, including: VPC, Interconnect, Firewalls, DNS, NAT, IAM and VPC‑SC
  • 3+ years’ experience using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
  • 3+ years’ experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience working with Kubernetes / GKE
  • Experience working in agile delivery environments (Scrum / Kanban, Jira, Confluence)
  • Strong understanding of platform reliability, security and automation

And any of these would be great

  • Experience working with large‑scale or hybrid GCP environments
  • Experience with policy as code
  • Experience using monitoring and observability tools such as Dynatrace or Google Cloud Monitoring
  • Google Cloud Professional certifications
