Lead Essbase Developer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Essbase Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise-scale Essbase-based financial reporting and analytical solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise in Essbase (ASO/BSO), strong leadership capabilities, and close collaboration with finance, business, and IT stakeholders to deliver high-quality, secure, and compliant reporting solutions.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a directly related field.
  • Strong experience in designing, developing, configuring, and supporting enterprise applications.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Essbase OLAP platform (ASO and BSO).
  • Strong experience developing, enhancing, and supporting Essbase-based reporting solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or significantly contribute to the resolution of complex technical and production issues.
  • Strong understanding of quality, security, and compliance requirements for financial reporting systems.
  • Proven ability to provide on-call and production support for mission-critical applications.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business partners.
  • Experience with Python for automation, orchestration, or data processing.
  • Experience with BPA Automate for financial process automation.
  • Experience with Oracle EPM Cloud (FCCS, PBCS, EPBCS).
  • Exposure to Hyperion Planning, Financial Reporting, or ODI.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and release management.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls, audit requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience leading technical design reviews and influencing architectural decisions.
  • Prior experience in offshore/onshore coordination and global delivery models.
  • Lead the design, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and deployment of Essbase solutions using Agile development practices.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of multidimensional financial reporting and analytics applications, including:
  • Requirements gathering
  • Functional and technical design
  • Development and configuration
  • Testing and validation
  • Production rollout
  • Documentation and ongoing maintenance
  • Design and maintain Essbase applications, including:
  • Outline design and dimensional modeling
  • Load rules and data integration
  • Calc scripts and aggregations
  • MaxL scripting
  • Security implementation
  • Performance tuning and optimization
  • Partitions and hybrid configurations
  • Smart View Add‑In for Excel
  • Partner with finance and business teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Ensure solutions adhere to enterprise governance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior Essbase developers.
  • Support and improve operational stability, monitoring, and automation of Essbase environments.

Desired Qualification:

  • Strong experience with Essbase ASO/BSO architecture and performance optimization.
  • In-depth experience with Star Schema design and relational database modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Database and/or SQL Server.
  • Experience sourcing hierarchy and fact data from:
  • File-based sources
  • Relational databases
  • Metadata management tools such as Oracle DRM
  • Strong experience with UNIX/LINUX shell scripting to automate:
  • Essbase outline builds
  • Data loads
  • Aggregations and batch processing
  • Experience building and maintaining automation using CA Autosys.
  • Experience working in the financial services industry or supporting finance and accounting teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in complex, multi-system environments.
