Merchant Solutions Technology

The Merchant Solutions Technology group provides the Corporate Bank with a dedicated team that capitalizes on the rapidly evolving technology industry to provide our clients new products and innovation to meet their growing needs within an Agile FinTech-like setup. We deliver innovative technology solutions enabling Deutsche Bank clients with modern payment acceptance and settlement capabilities.

As part of our new team within the Berlin Tech Centre, you will be responsible for technical design, delivery and post go-live coding, automated unit testing and integration and will liaise with the Product Owner, Architects, Product Managers, software engineers/developers and testers regarding the development and implementation of product lines using various technologies.

As a Lead Engineer (m/f/x), you will be playing a key role within the squad in developing end-to-end applications for merchant solutions to accomplish business goals

Your key responsibilities

  • Act as a hands-on technical authority for the new Merchant Solutions client enablement platform, driving the evolution of system design, code quality, efficiency, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

  • Provide end-to-end technical stewardship for services within the Merchant Solutions landscape by contributing deep hands-on expertise to solution design and implementation, while ensuring alignment with platform and enterprise engineering standards.

  • Act as a hands-on lead engineer (up to ~60% coding), balancing software delivery with responsibility for technical design, architectural guidance, code-reviews etc.

  • Provide low‑level architectural guidance within microservices and drive high‑level integration decisions with other platforms and systems, coaching and mentoring engineers through hands‑on technical collaboration and design reviews.

  • Drive engineering excellence by embedding security-by-design and stability-through-maintainability practices, while fostering strong Quality and SDLC discipline within the squad and beyond.

Your skills and experiences

  • Proven, in‑depth hands-on experience in Java and Spring, including application of advanced integration patterns and performance optimization techniques; strong understanding of framework internals in enterprise environments.

  • Strong experience designing and delivering distributed, microservice-based solutions, with practical application of RESTful API design, event‑driven architectures, and resiliency patterns in highly available systems.

  • Solid hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform technologies, including GKE, CloudSQL (PostgreSQL), Pub/Sub, and operational monitoring/logging, combined with strong PostgreSQL skills covering schema design, query optimization, and ORM usage.

  • Demonstrated senior engineering leadership through leading technical design reviews, mentoring and coaching engineers, and driving consistent engineering and quality standards, supported by modern testing and delivery practices (e.g. contract testing, CI automation, containerized deployments).

  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
