Jabil is seeking an experienced Lead Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to work for our plant in Auburn Hills, MI. This position is for 1st Shift!
How will you make an impact?
As the Lead EHS Engineer, you will assist the Engineering, Manufacturing and EHS teams in the administration of the EHS department to ensure smooth operation of the team. You will coordinate with management to establish and promote the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, healthy work environment that is compliant with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Finally, you will lead the development and maintenance of safety policies, procedures, and employee communications regarding safety guidelines.
What will you do?
Develop and implement general safety policies and procedures to be followed by site personnel in compliance with local, state, and national safety and health rules and regulations.
Assist with development of site level EHS team goals and objectives.
Coach and train EHS staff; adjust workloads as necessary.
Provide timely feedback on employee performance, including compiling and conducting performance appraisals and the development of training plans.
Plan and organize project plans for EHS related initiatives.
Assist in preparation of EHS forecast of staffing and discretionary spending.
Leverage knowledge of all EHS regulations, standards and requirements that affect/apply to the businesses in the site.
Perform gap analysis and internal audits against global EHS Policy as well as international standards (ISO14001, OSHAS18001, MIOSHA, EPA, RBA EHS Code Conformance…etc.).
Leverage technical expertise to develop solutions to close any gaps.
Maintain the site ISO 14001 program.
Analyze and quantify risks and supports others through the development of solutions and programs that mitigate EHS risks, providing feedback and expertise.
Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Describe ideal conditions (both Environmental and Health & Safety) and hold others accountable for determining and implementing appropriate solutions
Lead development of site safety programs including forklift, machine guarding, confined space entry, x-ray equipment, accident investigation, lead awareness, respirator, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety, etc.
Lead cross functional teams for incident investigations.
Facilitate root cause analysis using tools such as fishbone diagram, 5Y, etc.
Ensure that actions are entered into the incident management system (EHSIP) according to policy.
Verify corrective actions are completed and sustained.
Lead site hazardous waste management system including related documentation and training, proper labeling and handling, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Lead recycling program to help identify waste reduction, reuse and recycling opportunities.
Report greenhouse gas data through corporate carbon disclosure system.
Maintain site environmental air and wastewater permits.
Comply with all reporting and permit applications.
Evaluate new chemicals to ensure current controls are adequate and to mitigate risk and work to identify lower risk chemicals if necessary.
Function as the Environmental Management Representative during third party and customer environmental audits.
Coordinate the emergency response program including ensuring training is developed and implemented.
Work safely at all times and comply with Environmental Health and Safety standards and work practices along with all other work rules.
How will you get here?
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, (Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical) Engineering, Safety or other EHS related discipline are required.
At least 4 years of experience working in an EHS capacity within a Manufacturing Plant or Warehouse OR equivalent education and training.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to speak and present to large groups of people, including customers and executives.
Familiar with OSHA and OSHA requirements.
Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001.
Experience with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO).
ENEHSA reporting (local OSHA requirements).
Ability to gather data, prepare reports, and perform initial analysis of data.
Ability to work under tight deadlines with frequent interruptions, and frequently changing priorities.
