Job Summary: The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, MI is recruiting for a Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) in Computed Tomography (CT). The position is organizationally aligned under Diagnostic Imaging service. The Lead DRT (CT) will be tasked with maintaining efficient workflow in the CT department to include distributing workload and assignments to CT staff, ensuring timely completion of required duties and providing training on CT policies, protocols and competencies.

• VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: https://youtube.com/embed/I-4ku5UMvWM Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The major duties of the Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) in Computed Tomography (CT) include, but are not limited to: Fully functional as a Registered DRT in Computed Tomography (CT) and can carry out their assigned tasks independently to include a full range of diagnostic and interventional examinations; complex CT angiography; CT portography; 3-D computer reconstruction; and complex computer measurements and manipulations. The Assisting the radiologist in a full range of CT procedures that include but are not limited to percutaneous superficial and deep organ biopsies; paracentesis and thoracentesis; and drainage procedures Responsible for oversight of protocols and procedures including but not limited to quality control, compliance with regulatory guidelines, technologist schedule, available patient appointments and overall daily operations of CT Maintaining efficient workflow in the CT department to include distributing workload and assignments to CT staff to ensure timely completion of required duties Analyzing organizational, technical, and administrative problems and develops/implements solutions that result in efficient section operation Evaluating scans while in progress and notifies the radiologist or referring physician of significant CT scans/angiography studies requiring their immediate attention and visualization while patient is undergoing examination Preparing IV contrast as necessary and injects patients with contrast media under supervision of a Radiology physician to enhance tissue, lesions, etc. Conferring with radiologists to establish requirements of nonstandard examinations and determines technical factors, positioning, number, and thickness cut of scan, etc., to satisfy the requirements Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm NOTE: The position requires rotating on-call duties and may involve over-time for emergency coverage Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Qualifications: Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). Transcripts must be provided with application package. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include Computed Tomography (CT). Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. Advanced ARRT Certification in CT is required for this position. Copy of current certifications must be provided with application package. English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by VA Regulations May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Creditable Experience: Knowledge of Current Radiologic Technology Practice. To be creditable, experience must have demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics (also referred to as clinical competencies) associated with current radiologic technology practice. This may have been evidenced by the equivalent of one year of active practice, which is paid or nonpaid employment as a DRT as defined by ARRT. Quality of Experience. Experience is only creditable if it was earned after completion of the basic certification requirements identified in paragraph 2b above. Experience as a graduate DRT is creditable provided the candidate functioned as a DRT and subsequently passed the certification examination. Computed Tomography (CT). This specialty modality requires specific knowledge of cross sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or, multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans, including drainages, biopsies, and peripheral vascular examinations. The technologist requires specific knowledge and training in the location, appearance, and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination; to interpret the examination request accurately; to understand the functioning and inter-relationship of the various organs; to use the methods and techniques which will identify organs appearing on the digital display monitor, or on film, and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or scan for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of interest to the physician. DRT assignments that include performance of independent duties in this subspecialty require advanced ARRT certification in CT. Grade Determinations: GS-10: Candidates must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9), directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies are met. This specialty modality requires specific knowledge of cross sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or, multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans, including drainages, biopsies, and peripheral vascular examinations. Physical Requirements: The work requires extensive walking, primarily between workstations and divisions within the Radiology Department and remote service locations. There may be extended periods of time using and sitting in front of computers. There may be periods when bending and kneeling may be required and/or extended periods of time while working in a cold computer room.
