ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Are you ready to join our Transport Platform team and help us to shape and deliver the next phase of our transformation?

The role sits within the Transport Platform, which is a key member of the wider Consumer Lending Business Unit. Our mission is to keep Britain moving by providing customer focused solutions to facilitate access to vehicles, maintenance, and related services including Digital account management. We are committed to supporting the Group and wider UK in driving forward the sustainability agenda.

In pursuit of our mission, we are on a journey to transform our core technology architecture and the technical capabilities of our colleagues. We’re investing heavily in simplifying and modernising our technology architecture by developing new digital journeys, enabled by microservices, and leveraging a new data ecosystem. All using modern frameworks and native Cloud capabilities. Whilst embedding DevOps and Agile working practices to enable feature teams to increase autonomy and effectiveness.

As a DevOps Lead Engineer, you’ll work in a team of engineers to design, develop and integrate software features to achieve their goals. Working within a Feature Team, across Labs alongside Engineering Leads, Product Owners and Quality Engineers to achieve technology outcomes in respect of engineering enablement.

WHERE YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

You should feel excited by the prospect of making lasting positive impact through:

  • Leading cross-functional engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality DevOps capabilities across cloud-native platforms. You’ll apply technical leadership to drive outcomes and foster team autonomy.
  • Designing and orchestrating CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Harness, Jenkins, GitHub, and Terraform, with a focus on federation patterns like overrides and config maps. You’ll enable teams across the platform to self-serve and deploy with confidence.
  • Engineering Kubernetes-native solutions across Public and Private cloud environments, including workload orchestration, Istio-based networking, and storage class management. You’ll ensure platform resilience and scalability.
  • Building secure and compliant DevOps workflows by integrating tools like SonarQube and AquaSec into automated pipelines. You’ll enforce guardrails and embed quality assurance from the start.
  • Automating manual processes and enabling self-service capabilities across teams. You’ll champion an automation-first mindset and reduce operational overhead through robust pipeline design.
  • Applying strong stakeholder management across complex platforms, balancing competing priorities and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic planning and roadmap development, looking 6–12 months ahead to evolve DevOps capabilities in line with business needs. You’ll schedule work and anticipate future demand.
  • Fostering a culture of enablement, where DevOps capabilities are federated—not centralised—empowering teams to own and operate their delivery pipelines.
  • Mentoring and collaborating across Communities of Practice, driving continuous improvement through shared learning, experimentation, and leadership.
