Position Summary: Lead Engineer – Product Engineering / Product Development
The Lead Engineer will be a strategic and technical leader within the Product Engineering or Product Development Team, responsible for driving cross-functional product development initiatives across geographies and domains. This role demands a strong balance of technical expertise, project leadership, and interpersonal skills to ensure successful execution of high-volume, single-use disposable medical products.
The Lead Engineer will be accountable for end-to-end project execution, including planning, coordination, hands-on development, and team capability building. The role mainly will support Design Verification Team and responsibilities includes Development of design verification Strategies and also supports Test Method Development aligned with BD’s Global Product Development System (GPDS) and Stage Gate framework.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Project Management
Lead independent product engineering projects across global sites.
Drive technical discussions, decision-making, and execution rigor.
Monitor and control project milestones, timelines, and deliverables.
Inclusively lead and mentor TCI team members, building technical capabilities.
Establish and promote best practices for cross-platform project execution.
Design Engineering & Product Development
Lead creation and execution of verification strategies for high-volume medical products.
Develop and validate test methods, measurement systems, and test fixtures.
Ensure product requirements are testable and measurable.
Interpret and analyze verification data to assess product performance and manufacturing stability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate with D&D, Systems Engineering, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing Technology, and Operations.
Ensure stakeholder alignment and positive engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
Technical Documentation & Compliance
Develop engineering documentation including test plans, protocols, drawings, and 3D models.
Ensure compliance with BD’s Design Control procedures and applicable regulatory standards.

Lead Development Engineer

Key Responsibilities
- Lead R&D efforts through all phases of product development.
- Collaborate with Develop & Development, Systems Engineering, and cross-functional teams to ensure product requirements are verifiable and measurable.
- Synthesize, develop, update, and optimize compositions based on understanding design space.
- Primarily Lead the Design Verification Programs that includesm creation and execution of verification protocols, summarize results, enable formal building reviews, and own the verification portion of the Build History File.
- Define, plan, and lead activities for test method and measurement system development, validation, fixture build, and testing optimization
- Demonstrate proficiency in spotting Build Variance through relevant statistical measures. eg. Minitab
- Interpret and analyze development verification data related to product performance and operational stability in manufacturing plants.
- Identify the best tools and approaches to solve engineering problems effectively.
- Ensure deliverables are reliable, adequately pressure-tested, and satisfy user, regulatory, and business requirements.
- Implement DFSS rigor throughout the development selection and build process using empirical, statistical, and analytical tools.
- Ensure invention considerations embed all applicable DFX aspects, including manufacturability, usability, reliability, and safety.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver inventive solutions.
- Lead and ensure the implementation of design control guidelines in accordance with BD quality policies and procedures.
Organizational Leadership
- Ensure quality systems processes, including build controls and change control.
- Ensure coordinated project plans are accurate and encompass all cross-functional activities and resource requirements.
- Develop and manage detailed project budgets diligently.
- Identify project collaborators and monitor their engagement.
- Ensure efficient and effective technology transfer from research to development and manufacturing.
- Develop and implement creative strategies to guarantee optimal results in every facet of the position.

- Proactively develop, maintain, and share technical knowledge in specialized areas.

Education and Experience
- Full-time Degree in a pertinent engineering field (Mechanical, Industrial & Production, Chemical, Materials Engineering) or a master’s degree in a pertinent engineering field.
Experience
- 7 - 12 years of experience in the engineering/technical field, with 3 years of demonstrated project and team leadership, preferably in the medical device industry.
- Strong exposure to six sigma and lean methodologies is an advantage.
- Candidates with prior experience in Medical Devices will be preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Six Sigma knowledge/Black/Greenbelt certification, DFSS, MSA, and PMP Certifications/Project Management knowledge.
- Expertise in test method development, validation strategy, and execution.
- Proficiency in solid mechanics/mechanics of materials and statistical methods/tools.
- Ability to lead and teach others, strong interpersonal and influence skills, and strong technical and managerial judgment.
