JOB TITLE: Lead Data & AI Scientist, Client Data and Analytics

LOCATIONS: London / Bristol

HOURS: Full-Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About This Opportunity

Client Data and Analytics is an exciting team which delivers Analytics, Machine Learning, AI and Innovation to the heart of Business & Commercial Banking (BCB). As a Lead Data & AI Scientist, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering ground breaking AI solutions that solve complex business challenges for BCB. From predictive and generative AI to agentic systems, you’ll lead initiatives that transform digital experiences, automate processes, and unlock data-driven insights for colleagues and clients.

You’ll provide technical leadership, define our capability roadmap, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable models. This role also involves mentoring the Data Science & AI team, fostering knowledge sharing, and embedding industry best practices.

Key Accountabilities

Leadership

  • Conceptualise and lead the delivery of AI-driven solutions to solve complex business problems focusing on enhancing digital experiences, process automation and data driven insights to enable colleague and client journeys

  • Shape and define the capability roadmap for Data & AI, including cloud-native solutions and scalable architectures.

Technical Excellence

  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring for data scientists and engineers.

  • Ensure rigorous quality assurance in model development, testing, and deployment.

  • Develop proofs-of-concept to demonstrate new capabilities and accelerate adoption.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into actionable AI solutions.

  • Advocate for responsible AI practices and compliance with governance frameworks.

Innovation & Enablement

  • Guide the team in solving complex AI use cases and improving existing approaches.

  • Contribute to the design of training curricula and professional development paths for the Data & AI community.

Delivery & Impact

  • Drive measurable business outcomes through AI solutions aligned to strategic priorities.

  • Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with Group Data & AI standards.

What You'll Need

  • Expertise in Machine Learning, AI, and Generative AI, with hands-on experience in designing and implementing advanced models.

  • Proven track record of deploying AI solutions end-to-end from model development to production deployment and monitoring

  • Strong understanding of foundational models and large-scale architectures, including experience with fine-tuning and adapting pre-trained models for business use cases.

  • Experience with cloud-based AI/ML platforms and services

  • Deep understanding of responsible AI principles, hallucination guardrails, and assurance frameworks.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Experience applying AI and machine learning within Financial Services
