About the Role

The Lead Consultant Psychiatrist is accountable for the delivery of high-quality clinical services to the consumers of SVMH Community Acute Response Team (CART). This role provides clinical leadership in partnership with the Team Manager, and under the direction of the Clinical Director Acute Psychiatry, Director Adult Mental Health and the relevant Group Operations Manager. The Consultant Psychiatrist will clinically lead the CART Service, providing demonstrated excellence in clinical leadership and service development

The CART Services are Psychiatric Triage, Extended Triage, Emergency Department Mental Health (EDMH), Emergency Department Mental Health & Alcohol & Other Drug Hub (ED MH&AOD Hub), Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (CATT), Police Ambulance Clinical Early Response (PACER) and Medical Safe Injecting Room (MSIR).

Classifications for this position will range from Specialist Year 5 HN39 to Specialist Year 9 HN59 ($193.67 - $221.19 per hour). Classification dependent on years of experience.


Your Contribution

  • Excellent qualities as a clinician and good communication skills with consumers and colleagues
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership in a multi-disciplinary psychiatric service
  • Supervision of Psychiatry Registrars and junior medical staff
  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent
  • Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Registration with  AHPRA
  • Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain

St. Vincent’s Mental Health & Wellbeing (SVMHW) includes an adult area mental health & wellbeing service for the inner-city areas of Yarra and Boroondara.  It includes a range of inpatient, residential and community based programs, providing treatment to older youth (18-25yo), adults and older adults who experience acute and complex mental health issues. Multidisciplinary teams provide a range of clinical and therapeutic interventions underpinned by a strong commitment to recovery focused practice and person-centred care.
