Job Title: Lead Consultant - Cloud Networking
GCL: E
Introduction to role:
Are you ready to build and govern the cloud networks that power an aggressive digital transformation and accelerate the delivery of life-changing medicines? Can you turn sophisticated, global hybrid connectivity into a secure, automated platform that teams across research, manufacturing and commercialization rely on every day?
As Lead Consultant for Cloud Networking, you will build the blueprint for how our enterprise connects across AWS, Azure and GCP, and how those clouds integrate seamlessly with our on-premises environments. Your work will enable secure multi-account landing zones, resilient inter-connectivity and segmentation, and guardrails that let product teams adapt quickly without compromising safety or compliance. You will partner closely with engineering, security and product leaders to translate business goals by developing network solutions that scale, are observable by default and embed compliance-by-design.
Accountabilities:
- Cloud Network Compose: Produce high- and low-level builds for Cloud Network Services across AWS, Azure and GCP, including cloud network security and data centre solutions; deliver multi-account landing zones, VPC architectures, interconnectivity, segmentation and security controls that meet business requirements.
- Hybrid Integration: Integrate hybrid cloud networking with on-premises services and user- and customer-facing technologies; implement AWS Direct Connect and hybrid DNS to provide seamless, reliable connectivity across environments.
- Operationalisation: Deploy new automation workflows into production; collaborate with operational teams to resolve issues, embed observability and ensure compliance-by-design from day one.
- Build network automation functions designed for specific technical requirements. Combine these functions with operational and business processes, including change control and CMDB. This enhances consistency and speed at scale.
- Architecture Assurance: Participate in the Network Architecture Review Board (NARB) governance process to confirm network builds meet encouraged standards and align to enterprise strategy.
- Standards and Governance: Develop and uphold technical guidelines for cloud networking and automation; contribute to landing zone guardrails and network controls that raise quality across the platform.
- Enablement and Advocacy: Educate and promote automation techniques and technologies within Global Network Engineering to uplift capability and adoption across teams and regions.
- Plan and conduct onsite network tasks including pre-deployment assessments, equipment racking, and cabling. Coordinate device staging and cutovers with local site teams and vendors to ensure safe installations with minimal disruption.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Architecture assurance within the framework of Network Architecture Review Board (NARB) oversight to ensure build quality meets encouraged standards.
- Production of high- and low-level designs for Cloud Network Services across AWS/Azure/GCP, Cloud Network Security and Data Centre solutions, covering multi-account landing zones, VPC architectures, interconnectivity, segmentation and security controls.
- Integration of hybrid cloud networking with on-premises services, end-user and customer-facing technology teams, including AWS Direct Connect and hybrid DNS.
- Transition of new automation workflows into production, working with operational teams to resolve issues and embed observability and compliance-by-design.
- Development of network automation capabilities to meet specific technical requirements while integrating into operational and business processes (e.g., change control, CMDB).
- Education and promotion of automation techniques and technologies within Global Network Engineering.
- Development and maintenance of technical standards for cloud networking and automation; contribution to landing zone guardrails and network controls.
- Planning and execution of onsite network activities including pre-deployment surveys, racking/cabling, device staging and cutovers; coordination with local site teams and vendors to deliver installations safely and with minimal disruption.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Hands-on automation using Terraform, Ansible and Python for cloud and data centre networking.
- Experience with cloud-native security controls, firewalls and service meshes across AWS, Azure and GCP.
- Familiarity with DDI platforms (DNS, DHCP, IPAM), SD-WAN and data centre fabrics.
- Practical use of observability and logging toolchains (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, GCP Operations, Prometheus/ELK) for network telemetry and SLOs.
- Knowledge of regulatory and security frameworks and how to embed guardrails into network designs and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience coordinating vendor field services and accomplishing change in highly supervised, global environments.
When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we fuel daring thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge
perceptions. That's why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we're not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.
