What is the opportunity?

Join the Hybrid Cloud Engineering team as a Lead Cloud Product Architect, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cloud technology at RBC. This high-impact position offers the opportunity to drive innovation and influence strategic direction across public, private, and hybrid cloud environments.

In this role, you will design and oversee the overall cloud platform architecture strategy, ensuring it aligns with business goals for scalability, performance, security, and cost-efficiency. You will collaborate closely with product teams to translate business requirements into high-level architecture blueprints for cloud infrastructure, serving as a critical liaison between technical and business stakeholders. Working with engineering teams, you will ensure cohesive and consistent customer journeys across platforms, adhering to well-architected frameworks. Additionally, you will provide direct support and guidance to development teams and the Principal Cloud Product Architect, fostering technical excellence and innovation.

This role is a cornerstone of RBC’s cloud transformation journey, offering the chance to shape technology direction, drive strategic initiatives, and deliver scalable, secure, and efficient cloud solutions that power business success.

What will you do?

  • Design, at a high level, scalable, secure, high-performing, and cost-optimized hybrid infrastructure solutions
  • Develops cloud architecture related artifacts - current and target state, roadmaps, strategies, policies, standards, guidelines
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, architecture
  • frameworks, and industry compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with developers, engineers, and business leaders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Advocates following architecture principles and provides infrastructure expertise, feedback and development to mentor others
  • Research and evaluate emerging cloud technologies, recommend best solutions for business objectives.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Extensive experience in formal modeling of complex infrastructure and platform architectures, ensuring scalable and resilient system designs.
  • Proven track record in software development and engineering roles, with a focus on delivering high-quality, maintainable solutions.
  • Mastery of multiple programming languages, including Python, Golang, Java, and JavaScript, enabling versatile problem-solving across diverse technical landscapes.
  • Strong command of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms, ensuring efficient and elegant solutions to complex challenges.
  • Expertise in creating clear, comprehensive architecture documents and diagrams that precisely define system designs, fostering alignment across teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence both technical and business stakeholders, driving collaboration and shared vision.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Architecture as Code (AaC): Deep familiarity with IaC and AaC concepts, leveraging tools like Terraform and CrossPlane to automate and standardize infrastructure provisioning.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes (K8s), to streamline deployment and management of scalable applications.
  • Practical experience with Generative AI tooling, including MCP Server, GitHub Copilot, and OpenAI APIs, to enhance development efficiency and innovation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proven ability to tackle complex technical and business challenges through creative and data-driven approaches.

Nice-to-have:

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable, secure, and resilient enterprise architectures to support complex business objectives.
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience, ensuring a robust understanding of foundational principles.
  • Certified in cloud architecture with hands-on experience across AWS, Azure, and GCP, enabling strategic cloud adoption and optimization.
  • Over 5 years of experience in infrastructure architecture for large-scale programs, driving technical excellence and alignment with business goals.
  • Proficient in Mermaid.js for creating dynamic, version-controlled architecture diagrams, ensuring clarity and collaboration in technical documentation.
  • Deep understanding of modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines, fostering automation, agility, and continuous improvement in software delivery.
