Braze

Lead Business Analyst I

Toronto Full Time

At Braze, we have found our people. We’re a genuinely approachable, exceptionally kind, and intensely passionate crew.

We seek to ignite that passion by setting high standards, championing teamwork, and creating work-life harmony as we collectively navigate rapid growth on a global scale while striving for greater equity and opportunity – inside and outside our organization.

To flourish here, you must be prepared to set a high bar for yourself and those around you. There is always a way to contribute: Acting with autonomy, having accountability and being open to new perspectives are essential to our continued success.

Our deep curiosity to learn and our eagerness to share diverse passions with others gives us balance and injects a one-of-a-kind vibrancy into our culture.

If you are driven to solve exhilarating challenges and have a bias toward action in the face of change, you will be empowered to make a real impact here, with a sharp and passionate team at your back. If Braze sounds like a place where you can thrive, we can’t wait to meet you.

We are seeking a Senior BI Engineer to join our Business Analytics team, sitting within our broader Growth Data organization. As our post-IPO B2B SaaS environment continues to scale, we are actively modernizing our data infrastructure to better serve our operational partners.

We are looking for an experienced practitioner who has a proven track record of developing scalable data models and holds themselves to the highest standards of the Modern Data Stack. Operating as an embedded architectural lead, you will operate much closer to the revenue engine and GTM operators than you would in a traditional data role. You will serve as a foundational architect for modernizing our Go-To-Market data models—bridging the gap between raw operational data and strategic business execution, and aggressively refactoring legacy models that no longer meet the needs of the business. You will partner with our centralized Data Engineering team and your leadership, allowing you to focus deeply on what matters: designing, deploying, and governing enterprise-grade data models to scale Braze’s GTM organization through its next phase of growth.

You must currently reside in Canada and possess independent work authorization. We cannot provide visa sponsorship or relocation assistance for this role.

Who This Role is NOT For:

  • The Dashboard Builder: If your primary comfort zone is dragging and dropping in Tableau or PowerBI, and you do not actively write DRY, modular dbt code, this role is not a fit. We are hiring a code-first data architect, not a report builder
  • The ML Deployer: While you will use Python for complex ad-hoc analysis, we are not deploying predictive Machine Learning models into production. If you want to be an ML Engineer, you will be bored here
  • The Order-Taker: If you require perfectly scoped Jira tickets with zero ambiguity before you begin working, this environment will frustrate you. We need someone who can extract architecture from a complex and evolving operational environment

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Data Architecture & Refactoring: Lead the deprecation of legacy, undocumented "One Big Table" (OBT) reporting layers. Design, deploy, and govern a highly modular Star Schema using advanced dbt methodologies (Jinja, custom macros, incremental materializations, and robust testing)
  • Foundational GTM Modeling: Expand our data architecture far beyond basic Salesforce objects. You will untangle complex, underserved operational processes across the business and translate them into scalable, reliable data products
  • Raise our Technical Standards: You will be the most experienced DBT practitioner on the team, with the opportunity to raise our development standards and improve our practices. You will be expected to review the PRs of your teammates, provide technical mentorship, and you will have the leadership support necessary to elevate our technical baseline
  • Autonomous Project Ownership: Act as a primary technical owner for strategic analytics initiatives. You will proactively gather requirements from operational stakeholders, scope timelines, design architectural solutions from first principles, and measure the impact of the products you deploy, to effectively eliminate organizational bottlenecks
  • Cross-Functional Delivery: Interface directly with a complex matrix of stakeholders, including Data Engineering, Business Systems, GTM Operations, Salesforce Administrators, Sales Leaders, and Web Strategy. Your role is to capture the technical reality of their workflows and build the models that constrain and optimize their decision-making
  • Semantic Governance: Build and maintain a robust semantic layer in DBT to provide strict guardrails for business users, enabling safe, reliable self-service analytics free from metric divergence

WHO YOU ARE

  • Experience: 4–5+ years of dedicated individual contributor experience in data architecture, analytics engineering, or advanced data modeling
  • Core Technical Proficiency (Required): Expert-level SQL and advanced dbt capabilities are strictly required. You must be heavily experienced in dimensional modeling and utilizing modern cloud data warehouses and DBT semantic layers
  • Strong Data Model and Product Design Acumen: You go beyond delivering the requested specifications given by stakeholders to deliver data products that actually address the underlying business problem. When designing models, you account for organizational ambiguity and think several moves ahead to ensure that future projects do not require a full pipeline refactor
  • Analytical Agility: Proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit-learn) to handle ad-hoc analysis, statistical modeling, and analytical edge cases outside of the core dbt pipeline
  • Operational Grit: Demonstrated ability to extract coherent architectural requirements from messy, undocumented operational workflows. You don't just build what is asked; you investigate the underlying process and design the mathematically sound solution
  • Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of B2B SaaS Go-To-Market operations, GTM funnels, and Revenue Operations data modeling. You understand the commercial implications of business data just as deeply as the computational implications of a complex table join

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between CA$121,700-CA$143,200/year, with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between CA$135,200-CA$159,100/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, this role qualifies for a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that you will own a piece of our company.
