Job Description:

Role Overview

The Lead Advanced Analytics role is a senior manager role as hands-on individual contributor responsible for end-to-end development of advanced analytic models and for setting analytical standards across teams. The role combines deep model-building expertise with the ability to independently evaluate, and challenge models developed by peer teams to ensure they are fit for purpose, methodologically sound, and aligned to business, risk, and regulatory objectives.

The role focuses on insider risk, internal fraud (against customers and the bank), and employee misconduct, operating at the intersection of analytics, risk management, and governance.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Model Development

Design, build, and deploy advanced statistical and machine learning models across insider risk and internal fraud use cases.

  • Own the full model lifecycle, including:
    • Problem definition and risk articulation
    • Data sourcing and feature engineering
    • Model selection and training
    • Performance evaluation and tuning
    • Implementation and ongoing monitoring

  • Develop models such as:
    • Supervised classification models
    • Unsupervised anomaly detection models
    • Peer group and behavioral deviation models
    • Network / graph-based risk models
    • Hybrid rule + model approaches

  • Ensure models are interpretable, explainable, and operationally viable in production environments.

Feature Engineering & Data Science Excellence

  • Design robust feature sets grounded in internal fraud typologies, behavioral risk indicators, and control weaknesses.
  • Evaluate temporal features, peer normalization, and behavioral baselining.
  • Identify data gaps and lead initiatives to enhance data quality and coverage.
  • Apply sound sampling, labeling, and class-imbalance strategies.

Model Performance, Monitoring & Optimization

  • Define success metrics aligned to investigative outcomes and risk reduction.
  • Conduct back-testing, benchmarking, and stress testing.
  • Implement performance monitoring to detect:
  • Continuously refine models to improve precision, recall, and operational efficiency.

Model Oversight & Credible Challenge

  • Provide independent, rational challenge to models developed by other analytics or vendor teams.
  • Review models for:
    • Model Drift
    • Data Drift
    • Behavioral  Shifts
  • Challenge assumptions, thresholds, and performance claims using evidence-based analysis.
  • Document challenge outcomes and drive remediation where required.

Governance, Documentation & Validation Readiness

  • Produce and review comprehensive model documentation including:
    • Model purpose and scope
    • Methodology and design rationale
    • Assumptions, limitations, and risks
    • Monitoring and change management plans
  • Ensure compliance with internal Model Risk Management (MRM) frameworks.
  • Support independent model validation, internal audit, and regulatory exams.
  • Partner with second-line risk and compliance teams on model approvals.

Analytics Strategy & Standards

  • Define modeling standards, best practices, and reusable frameworks across analytics teams.
  • Promote consistency in feature engineering, evaluation metrics, and documentation.
  • Influence the analytics roadmap and use-case prioritization.
  • Evaluate and guide the use of emerging techniques (e.g., graph ML, LLM-assisted analytics).

Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence

  • Translate complex models into clear, business-relevant narratives.
  • Mentor and technically guide junior data scientists and analysts (without formal line management).
  • Serve as a key escalation point for complex analytical decisions.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 10–15+ years of experience in:
    • Advanced analytics, data science, or quantitative risk roles
    • Financial crime, insider risk, fraud, or employee misconduct
  • Demonstrated experience owning production models, not just POCs.
  • Proven ability to review and improve models built by other teams.
