Program Summary

Job Summary

As a Maintenance Technician COMSEC/C5ISR, you will provide technical expertise in the maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of Communications Security (COMSEC) equipment and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems. This role ensures secure communications and operational readiness of mission-critical systems in compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) standards and security protocols.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform field and sustainment-level maintenance on COMSEC and C5ISR systems, including cryptographic devices, Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI), radios, and associated electronic subsystems.
  • Install, configure, and verify communication systems in tactical vehicles and fixed facilities.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics using specialized Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Implement Modification Work Orders (MWO) and ensure compliance with technical manuals, Army Regulations (AR), and security directives.
  • Maintain accountability and secure storage of COMSEC material in accordance with DoD and NSA policies.
  • Perform key management operations using EKMS/KMI systems and devices like SKL AN/PYQ-10 and KIK-30.
  • Document maintenance actions, prepare reports, and update system records in GCSS-Army or equivalent platforms.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of zero accidents during high-voltage and sensitive equipment handling.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to junior technicians and supported units

Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)

  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in Electronics, IT, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in COMSEC or C5ISR systems maintenance and installation.
  • Proficiency in reading and applying Army Technical Manuals (TM), Technical Bulletins (TB), and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with cryptographic key management systems (EKMS/KMI) and COMSEC handling procedures
  • Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environments, outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to team lift up to 50 pounds in a two-person carry.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently.
  • Must be free of medical restriction/ limitations that prevent the wearing and utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and background checks related to the position.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of military vehicles and related equipment.
  • Must be able to work in cramped areas for at least two continuous hours.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions to include intense heat, heavy wind, blowing sand, heavy rain, and snow and sleet.
  • Employees shall utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices associated with all lifting and material handling tasks that are assigned and associated with this job description
  • Requires a valid passport with at least 12 months of validity and 6 blank pages.

Preferred Qualifications (Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)

  • Certified COMSEC Technician (CCT) or equivalent certification.
  • Certified C5ISR Technician (CC5ISR-Tech) or related credentials.
  • GCSS-Army certification and experience with DoD maintenance systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of IP networking, LAN/WAN troubleshooting, and secure communications protocols.
  • Experience with Type 1 cryptographic devices and associated loaders.
  • Experience and ability to work effectively with non-native English speakers strongly preferred.
  • Prior overseas professional experience.
