Law Trademark Manager

Ecolab is seeking a senior Trademark Manager with a solid understanding of international trademark portfolio management to support Ecolab’s global businesses. This position will primarily support the trademark team in building, maintaining and protecting the Ecolab trademark portfolio globally.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support global trademark prosecution activities, including trademark clearance, filings, prosecution, and maintenance.
  • Communicate and coordinate with US and foreign trademark counsel regarding trademark registration, maintenance, and enforcement.
  • Monitor upcoming deadlines and supervision of docketing activities.
  • Assist trademark attorneys with trademark monitoring, enforcement and dispute matters, such as: reviewing trademark watch reports; gathering information and evidence from business teams to support enforcement actions; reviewing and assisting with attorney execution of filings; and docketing deadlines.
  • Reviewing new brand requests received from business teams to confirm alignment with current brand guidelines and policies.
  • Coordinating post-registration filings and renewals worldwide, including maintenance instructions, auditing files, communicating with business teams to confirm use and obtain documentation as needed.
  • Review proper trademark usage by business teams and assist with training presentations regarding trademark use and processes.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of trademark experience in a law firm or in-house corporate setting as a trademark attorney or paralegal, and preferably at a large law firm serving U.S.-based or international clients.
  • Substantial experience with trademark portfolio management, clearance, applications, maintenance, renewals, and enforcement.
  • Substantial experience managing trademark portfolios for global brands with large, international trademark portfolios.
  • Substantial experience with the Madrid international trademark filing system.  
  • Experience with leading teams of trademark attorneys or paralegals.
  • University diploma and certification as an attorney or paralegal.
  • English Fluency and experience working in English-speaking roles.
  • Experience with IP docketing systems, such as WebTMS and FoundationIP.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Familiarity with USPTO and foreign trademark databases.
  • Exemplary organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to proactively manage a high volume of tasks with competing deadlines through time management and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain a strict level of confidentiality and effectively manage sensitive information with professionalism and speed.
  • Ability to quickly become knowledgeable in a new environment, including knowledge of organizational operations, procedures and staff.
  • Resourcefulness, sound judgment, and tact to appropriately handle requests from all levels, including senior management.
