Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented below is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

We’re looking for a Law Clerk to support our Legal Claims Department!
As a Law Clerk, you'll be an integral member of the team, providing clerking support on insurance defence Accident Benefits and Tort files. This exciting in-house opportunity is based in our Toronto office or Mississauga office.
This is a temporary 18-month contract/secondment opportunity.
What you’ll do here:
Provide practice management support on assigned files
Drafting pleadings and LAT forms
Review productions and prepare pre-discovery/pre-hearing lists of additional productions, documents, and information to request from counsel
Manage all aspects of undertakings, including: preparing and maintaining undertakings charts, corresponding with counsel to request undertakings, reviewing responses to confirm satisfaction, and drafting motion materials to compel answers where required
Coordinate Independent Examinations, including retaining experts and preparing expert briefs
Prepare and maintain paperless briefs for Accident Benefits and Tort matters
Summarize documents for Accident Benefits and Tort matters
Support trial/arbitration preparation
Experience supporting any of the following is an asset: Professional Negligence, Errors & Omissions, Directors & Officers Liability, Employment and Human Rights, Property, Construction, Surety, Marine, Class Actions, Subrogation, Abuse Claims
What you bring to the table:
Strong knowledge of Tort matters, including Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, along with Accident Benefits (SABs, FSCO/LAT forms and processes, and the Dispute Resolution Practice Code)
Working knowledge of the Rules of Small Claims Court and Practice Directions of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice
Demonstrated experience as an Insurance Defence Litigation Law Clerk
College diploma and/or university degree, or equivalent work experience
Strong document management skills and ability to learn and use internal tools, including iManage, Citrix, ACL, Nuance, and Microsoft Office
Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and execute high-quality of work with quick turnaround times
A collaborative, service-oriented mindset aligned with our #oneteam philosophy, supporting insureds, adjusters, claims representatives, law clerks, legal assistants, and lawyers to drive customer satisfaction and business continuity
Excellent attention to detail and sound proofreading skills
Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and initiative
Demonstrate a disciplined approach to work
Comfort working in a paperless environment
