Job Summary: This position is located within the Environmental Management Service (EMS), Audie L. Murphy Campus (ALMC) of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS), San Antonio, Texas.

Major Duties:

  • Major Duties: Maintain adequate clean linen/pillow levels on all units with a 24-hour supply each day. Folding clean linen. Establishing user quotas. Conducting linen inventories. Requesting linen items from the consolidated textile facility. Delivering clean linen and pillows to end users. Collecting soiled linens from various collection points. Perform walk-through inspections (prior to delivery) on units to determine exact needs to keep units to par levels. Clean and disinfect linen folding table located in the linen room. Clean assigned nurse servers, exchange carts, floor carts and other types of linen distribution systems utilized in assigned areas. Prepare and exchange carts for assigned areas by end of day in preparation for delivery at start of next day. Deliver employee uniforms to the employee uniform room. Make special deliveries to units as requested to accommodate patient care needs. Ensure all carts, baskets, and exchange carts are covered during time linen is being delivered. Practice and enforce all sanitary measures to minimize cross contamination of clean linen. Be familiar with names and identification of all linen items and their primary use. Be familiar with items from Sterile Processing and Distribution and Patient Care Services (slings, mitts, lift restraints, non-skid socks, hip protectors, etc.) to be included in daily deliveries. Fill Scrub Avail scrub dispensing machine, and process and issue Scrub Avail cards to eligible employees as per policy. Check and evaluate general purpose linen items for fair wear and tear, and pull from use if applicable. Tag and send items needing repair to the sewing machine operator. Assist with unloading clean linen carts from laundry truck, and loading soiled linen carts onto laundry truck. Moving carts on wheels weighing approximately 600-700 pounds throughout the medical facility. Serve as back up to Patient Assistance Program Clerk in picking up and delivering patient personal clothing and valuables, inventorying and safeguarding.
