Job Summary: This position is located in the Environmental Management Service, Textile Care Processing Section at New Mexico VA Healthcare Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Incumbent performs a variety of work such as sorts soiled linens; inspects for holes, tears, and stains. Incumbent is the Laundry/Linen Worker charged with the operation of a variety of laundry production at the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF).

Major Duties:

  • The Laundry Worker contributes to the Textile Care program by performing a full range of duties in maintaining the linen exchange system which provides linen service to wards, clinics, and laboratories. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Assists the Textile Care Supervisor in conducting customer service surveys and random sampling linen inventory counts throughout the facility. Performs other related duties as assigned and as required due to emergency situations or staff shortages. Assist the Machine Operators, Linen Clerks, Sewing Machine Operator and Truck Driver as necessary. (Valid driver's license is required if operating vehicles.) Weighs, records, and logs daily delivered clean and soil linen carts. Prepares, deliver, and restock clean linen on daily basis. Pushes or pulls 9 feet cart on and off elevators. Assists with quarterly inventory of linen throughout the facility. Keeps work area, linen carts, and equipment in sanitary condition. Collects bags of soiled linen throughout the facility. Checks wards and clinical linen rooms for overage or misuse of linen. Inspects of linen delivery areas at delivery. Assures linen security by inspection of lock on doors. Operates electronic or manual pulleys or dollies to transport linen. Uses a variety of cleaning supplies and power operated equipment. Works in a safe manner, adhering to established safety policies and reporting any hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions to management. Follows specific instructions proper mixing, handling, and securing toxic chemical and solutions. Work Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD50004A Physical Requirements: Lift and carry over 30 pounds. Must be able to stand and walk consistently, perform light to moderate bending and stooping, and about to wear PPE for extended periods of time as dictated by work setting. Some heavy movement of laundry carts weighing up to 700 pounds and use of conveyors are required. During normal day operations, individual will be required to perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation, reaching above shoulder height and frequent stooping, bending, twisting and kneeling. Position routinely requires that individual operate vehicles, electrical equipment and push or pull soiled and clean laundry carts in and out of laundry truck, to and from loading docks to various locations with the TCPF and medical center.
