A Brief Summary of This Position:

The associate will operate various pieces of equipment to cut and classify steel shafts using CNC plasma cutting machinery. Use of magnetic cranes and forklifts are essential to this position. The associate must maintain a safe and productive work environment producing a quality product which is shipped complete and on time to satisfy the needs of the customer.

Essential Functions:

  • Be responsible for safety and environmental issues regarding assigned area.
  • Read and interpret flat sheets.
  • Understand machine controls, program codes, fixtures and tool offsets, and CNC systems.
  • Use shop mathematics to determine various cutting depths and feed rates.
  • Uses measuring instruments such as a level, tape measure, digital protractor, calipers, and micrometer.
  • Understand material requirements and specifications as stated on flat sheets.
  • Determine the sequence of set ups, operations, and processes within the given burn list
  • Load machine programs, as needed, specific to product orders.
  • Maintain housekeeping in work area, and on all machines used.
  • Operator performs consumable changes as required
  • Read and interprets daily production schedules.
  • Writes entries on daily burn log to accurately document plate and heat numbers
  • Submit 2 safety contact cards on a monthly basis
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • The ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • The ability to accurately read a tape measure and micrometer.
  • The ability to read Valmont flat sheets
  • Become Forklift and Crane certified through Valmont
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers
  • Utilize all safety devices and wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • One (1) year or more working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (or no experience and have a degree from an accredited school in a related field)
  • One (1) year of previous Industrial Machining experience

SKILL

Job Training Skill Development:

Must be able to perform satisfactorily all functions of this position satisfactorily within 3 months of starting this position. Must obtain valid Valmont crane operator training and forklift certification to be efficient in the position.

Decision Making:

The decisions the person in this position makes effects inventory accuracy and availability of material for production. The associate is responsible for prioritizing the workload to avoid lost time to all departments. Utilizes product mix in location assuring proper rotation of stored materials. Able to apply creativity to solve the problems encountered within the scope of their activity.

Must be able to clearly understand, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions. Must be able to perform the computer functions / transactions required by the department timely and effectively.
