Job Description
 

Overview

The Landscape Architect Assistant supports and assists in the performance of feasibility studies, collection and organization of field data, and the development of cost estimates for various streetscape or urban design projects in the Public Works Department. Participates in the review of plan documents and project coordination.

Essential Functions

1 Reviews, evaluates, and checks plans for various projects for architectural details and specifications for streetscape and urban landscaping design; works with the Landscape Architect to provide feedback, comments, and recommendations.

2 Assist, supports, and participates in field site visits; assesses and evaluates built site conditions for any needed maintenance and to monitor the conditions of plant material and irrigation equipment in City-Owned Public Rights of Way; evaluates, checks, and conducts a site visit for every service request received to asses issues; monitors progress and ensures landscape materials meet specifications.

3 Facilitates communication and efficiency for the Project Managers overseeing Capital Improvement Projects: attends and participates in meetings with Council Members, community members, design consultants, and other City of Dallas staff; coordinates with stakeholders, prepares forms, curates contract documents for design and construction, reviews invoices, and performs other project related activities.

4 Receives, submits, and tracks invoices pertaining to Landscape Enhancement Work; ensures the architectural integrity and accuracy to submitted plans, specifications, and regulations and assists with adjustments and other plan modifications and communication.

5 Requests, gathers, and compiles proposals for landscape enhancement and maintenance work in City-Owned Public Rights of Way; coordinates activities for landscape, irrigation, tree pruning or removal, and purchasing
landscape materials.

6 Engages, interacts, and collaborates with Project Managers implementing plans and architectural designs; assists in the performance of tree assessments during the design and construction phases of their projects and remains involved through completion.

7 Attends and participates in public meetings to assist Project Managers and other personnel in the presentation of proposed street and landscape improvement projects.

8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of computer software packages

2 Knowledge of CADD design software. For example, AutoCAD, MicroStation.

3 Knowledge of landscape construction practices, techniques, and principles.

4 Ability to review submitted plans and provide feedback and comments regarding landscape architecture.

5 Knowledge of city regulations, department standards, and state and federal regulation which affect design.

6 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university.

LICENSE

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record. ​

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional field visits that require driving, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing and measuring. 



Salary Range

 

$27.45 - $32.58
