Lactation Registered Nurse, Motherbaby Unit
Shift: Part-time, 2nd Shift
About the Unit:
The Baptist Health Lexington Mother/Baby Unit is comprised of 42 private rooms and is staffed by skilled and compassionate nurses who specialize in providing a high level of patient-centered postpartum care for both Mom and baby. Our newborn nursery is staffed by two newborn assessment nurses (NANs) and our patients receive breastfeeding guidance from staff along with our knowledgeable certified lactation consultants. Many members of the team have received extra training and certification in maternal and newborn care. Our focus is assisting families in getting the best start possible and making the transition home as smooth as possible through the provision of quality care, education, and support.
About the position:
The Lactation Consultant is a member of the Mother/Baby nursing team and is responsible for educating and supporting mothers who plan to breastfeed, monitoring of infants at risk for delayed breastfeeding, and assisting the mother/infant pair with feeding and bonding. Responsibilities include staff education, assisting with departmental policy and procedure development and evaluation, monitoring outcomes related to breast-feeding and infant nutrition and participation in continuing education and professional development activities. As a clinical nurse, this individual spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:
Graduate from a nursing school with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing
Has a minimum of 2 years nursing related experience.
Current RN licensure to work in Kentucky.
CLC required, IBCLC preferred and if applicant does not currently have IBCLC, then will work to gain IBCLC certification within
three (3) years of hire date.
Must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire.
Adequate hours in lactation education to sit for Lactation Certification Exam IBCLC.
