Job Summary: This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Labor and Custodial Branch. The Senate is seeking Laborer (Recycler)'s to fill both Day and Night shift positions. Performs a wide range of laborer duties including setting up rooms, arranging and moving furniture, providing set-up and support for special events, moving boxes and construction materials, operating floor care equipment and performing other task in and around the Capitol Hill buildings.

Major Duties:

  • This position will fill both Day and Night shifts. The tour of duty for these position are Day Shift (6:00 am – 2:30 pm) and Night shift (9:30 pm – 6:00 am). Hours can change due to operational needs. This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedule will require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. The individual selected for this position will: Load and unload heavy boxes, bulky supplies and heavy construction building materials and supplies to and from trucks. Moves heavy boxes and cartons by hand, hand truck, or dolly. Collects trash and debris from Congressional Buildings and surrounding grounds. Empty trash, garbage and other debris from receptacles located throughout the building and grounds. Performs other tasks such as clearing snow and ice from building entrances, spreading salt, and picking up litter. Empty wastebaskets, collect and dispose of refuse. Sweep, mop and wax floors; wash walls and windows, dust and perform other cleaning duties. Collect and sort recyclable material, including aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, newspaper, and paper, from various locations within the buildings. Relines recycle containers with plastic bags. Place recycled material in appropriate locations as determined by management. Collect all wet waste material from various locations within buildings and relines all wet waste containers and disposes of all wet waste materials. Cleans recycling containers as necessary. Provide set-up and support for special events. Set up dining areas, meeting rooms, auditoriums, classrooms, etc., in various configurations for many types of events. Moves and arranges furniture and equipment for changes in room assignments or room configurations. Moves items that may weigh more than 80 lbs. Assist the shop offices' trades' personnel with short-term repair and construction projects, such as tearing down walls or ceilings using hand tools, in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions. Follow all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures and complies with all OSHA safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications: You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position. Ability to do the work of the position (Laborer Recycler) without more than normal supervision: (Detailed experience must be reflected in resume) -Providing set-up and support for special events. -Setting up rooms (meeting, conference etc). -Arranging and moving furniture and supplies. -Operating floor care equipment and performing cleaning tasks.
