Job Summary: This position is located within the Facilities Management Service at the James Mountain Inhofe VA Medical Center, performing work as a Laborer requiring significant manual skills and heavy physical effort in the use of large complex riding equipment, hydraulic and mechanical devices.

Major Duties:

  • Duties include, but are not limited to: Lift and move moderately heavy objects such as furniture and equipment by hand, hand truck or dolly; Maintain grounds maintenance on grades or slopes, using manual equipment to fill holes, rake leaves, or dig ditches; Use simple powered equipment such as push lawn mowers, blowers, edgers, trimmers, etc. to maintain grounds; collecting and emptying garbage cans; Operate farm tractors with various attachments; front end loader with bucket and fork attachments; bush hog, backhoe, box blade, belly mowers, straight blades, and rotary brooms on irregular terrain; Operate Kubota, RTV, X1100C, with various attachments; front straight blade, angle blade, V-blade, rotary broom, sand and salt spreader for snow removal, and seed spreader for seeds and fertilizer on irregular terrain; Operate JLG 742 Telescopic Handler with various attachments with heights up to 42 feet; fork attachments, bucket attachments, broom attachment, and man lift attachment on irregular terrain; Operate large power tillers to prepare flower beds and lawn areas for bedding plants; Maintain consistent communication with direct supervisor, and keeping supervisor advised of the operational status of all the equipment being used in completion of duties; Separate, stack, carry, and load/unload materials and supplies; Skilled in the operation of various controls and levers to maneuver equipment, and lift/lower, adjust, engage/disengage components or attached devices; Knowledgeable in preventative maintenance of equipment; changing blades, changing belts, changing oil, greasing equipment, changing flat tires, changing hoses, washing equipment, etc. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD13064A Physical Requirements: This position requires the incumbent to push and lift items weighing more than 100-lbs daily. These items will be lifted with the assistance from other co-workers. Most of the work required for this position involves twisting, climbing, crawling, lifting, bending, crouching, leaning, stretching, sitting, standing, stooping, and carrying up and down stairs and on irregular terrain in extreme temperatures from -20-degree wind chills to 120- degree heat index. Safety equipment is available and will be issued in order to minimize the possibility of injury.
