RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversees the overall operation of the Laboratory. Ensures all Laboratory business is aligned with refinery goals and is conducted in a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient manner.
• Ensures personal and process safety and environmental stewardship for the Laboratory. Promotes understanding of and adherence to HES and Laboratory policies, programs, procedures, regulations, and work instructions.
• Champions site product quality program and drives a culture of continuous improvement including quality incident elimination. Assures accurate, timely data for product quality control, and other testing and chemical analyses services for the division.
• Drives culture of production-centered organization through communication and collaboration with all other business units to effectively execute site objectives.
• Develops and sustains culture of high performance and accountability, in and beyond the Laboratory by setting expectations, organizing, planning, and leading team activities. Identifies and pursues opportunities for personal and team development to meet business and career objectives. Provides coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to Laboratory Team members.
• Aligns Laboratory organization’s efforts to maximize reliability and availability of Laboratory equipment through proactive identification of issues, defect elimination, and preventative maintenance. Manages testing equipment issues which can impact facility production.
• Develops and manages Laboratory Team budget to support safe and reliable operation.
• Embraces continuous learning and collaborates with corporate SMEs on new products, standards, and test methods in the refining chemical field needed to determine the knowledge, principles, techniques, and equipment that would have a practical application within the Laboratory.
• Participates in the application and development of programs to ensure all products meet the required specifications and maximize economic opportunity for the refinery.
• Assists other departments outside Refining (as needed) in matters of a technical nature regarding both oversight and specification testing. Assists in the handling of end-user complaints regarding product quality or performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Analytical Science preferred.
• Seven (7) years or more relevant experience.
