Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

Texas A&M’s Biology Department is looking for a Laboratory Attendant to support research operations by preparing, cleaning, and sterilizing laboratory glassware and materials. The Laboratory Attendant will handle the washing and autoclaving of lab items, assist with basic preparation of commonly used supplies, and ensure clean materials are delivered to the appropriate labs. This position helps maintain a safe and efficient work environment by supporting routine sterilization needs and assisting with general lab supply preparation and distribution.

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Cleans and processes soiled glassware and plasticware by removing tape and labels, washing, covering with foil, autoclaving, and placing items in the drying oven as needed.

  • Sterilizes media, discarded cultures, contaminated materials, pipets, and utensils using appropriate temperatures and pressures, including washing pipets, autoclaving, and drying.

  • Assists with preparing and distributing laboratory supplies such as filled tip boxes and fly food.

  • Distributes all cleaned and sterilized glassware and plasticware to the appropriate laboratories.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year in custodial or lower-level laboratory work.

  • Must be able to lift and carry moderate weight regularly.

A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Knowledge of principles of sterile techniques; use of autoclaves.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
