Cleveland Clinic Laboratory caregivers perform the diagnostic and consultative services that are the foundation for our world-class care. We execute 20 million tests each year, operating at a scale that helps us serve more patients in more ways than ever before. This role supports the Histology Lab, which houses a team dedicated to quality. Laboratory Assistants are utilized to the top of our ability while remaining conscious of our accreditation requirements. In this role, you will help assemble cases to be looked at by the Pathologist, change stainers, help with digital pathology and more. You will attain various skills to help further your career in medical laboratory science.
A caregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from 5:30AM – 2:00PM or 5:00AM – 1:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform various laboratory procedures.
Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting and storing specimens.
Operate laboratory equipment and perform routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs.
Perform quality assurance activities.
Maintain adequate stock of supplies and manage the inventory by transporting and distributing supplies.
Complete three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and Cleveland Clinic policies
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Knowledge of medical terminology
Physical Requirements:
Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.
Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.
Requires frequent sitting or standing.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
