Job Summary
The Labor & Employment Paralegal and Employment Law Analyst is responsible for providing data-driven analysis and strategic recommendations to the Legal team's Labor and Employment group, business leaders, and HR. This role manages complex Labor & Employment legal support functions, including: developing strategies and leading the employment litigation discovery and compliance program processes, policy and procedure implementation support, analyzing and developing separation packages and corresponding data support, and leading the development and maintenance of diversity and affirmative action plans (AAPs) in partnership with external counsel.

This position reports directly to the Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment, and is based in GAF's Corporate Headquarters in Parsippany, NJ, with a hybrid schedule of Monday through Thursday in-office, and the option to work remotely on Friday.

Essential Duties

  • Labor & Employment Litigation Management & Case Support
    • Provides end-to-end support for labor and employment litigation, arbitrations, and administrative charges (EEOC/state agencies).
    • Manages the legal hold process, including drafting, issuing, and tracking litigation hold notices, reviewing and analyzing litigation hold survey responses, and maintaining/updating the relevance.
    • Directs and coordinates the collection and preservation of electronically stored information (ESI) and hardcopy documents, often resolving complex data issues
    • Reviews documents for responsiveness and relevance in the discovery process, including reviewing and redacting for privilege and/or confidentiality, Bates stamping, and production using secure electronic file share systems as well as hardcopy productions, as necessary.
    • Reviews and coordinates collection of payroll data in partnership with the Payroll department.
    • Supports the Labor and Employment team and outside counsel in preparing position statements, exhibits, arbitration prep materials, and electronic filing of administrative agency documents and correspondence. As necessary, support settlement payment processing.
    • Maintains Labor and Employment matter internal files via AODocs and other electronic filing systems, including filing correspondence, pleadings, discovery, and other relevant documentation.
    • Leads response to third party subpoena and document requests, including but not limited to personnel file review and collection, redaction for confidential and privileged information, and production of the same.
    • Provides high-level analytical support to the wage garnishment process in partnership with Payroll.

  • Compliance Support
    • Leads the strategic data collection, analysis, and end-to-end implementation of mandatory federal and state data filings and compliance programs, including the development of Affirmative Action Plans (AAPs) in accordance with Executive Order 11246, in partnership with outside counsel and the Labor & Employment team.
    • Develops and delivers training to HR professionals and recruiters, and acts as a primary strategic liaison between Legal and HR.
    • Partners with the HR Team on annual filing of EEO-1 and other state/federal mandated compliance reports (including California pay data reporting requirements).
    • Assists in drafting and auditing of internal Labor and Employment policies to ensure alignment with current local, state, and/or federal requirements.
    • Drafts separation documentation in accordance with federal and state offboarding requirements, including but not limited to OWBPA disclosures and WARN notices.
    • Partners with the HR Team and outside counsel on I-9 audit compliance, and serve as the first point of escalation for complex I-9 issues. In all cases, partners with the HR Team to identify and correct technical errors or missing information.

  • Special Projects
    • Conducts legal research on emerging labor and employment law trends, as necessary.
    • Provides ad-hoc support for labor relations matters, as necessary.
    • Partners with Legal team Paralegals on review and maintenance of legal technologies, including file and document management systems, electronic discovery and litigation hold processes, etc.

  • Other General Duties
    • Provides assistance to other paralegals, legal administrative assistants, and attorneys when necessary to meet department needs, and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications Required

  • College Degree Required

  • Minimum five years of relevant Labor and Employment and/or HR work experience in a professional environment; law firm and in-house experience preferred. Relevant HR professional experience considered.

  • Paralegal certificate preferred or equivalent analyst and/or HR professional certifications considered.

  • Experience with OFCCP compliance and AAP development strongly preferred.


Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of Labor and Employment litigation management, HR documentation, and data processing and requirements.

  • Familiarity with Executive Order 11246, OFCCP regulations, and federal/state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, Title VII, ADA) preferred.

  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides).

  • Familiarity with eFiling systems, including EEOC Respondent’s Portal, or similar.

  • Familiarity with Workday (or comparable HRIS systems)


Qualifications Preferred

  • Advanced organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • High level of discretion and integrity, and sensitivity to highly sensitive, confidential information.

  • Ability to lead projects and assignments from end to end, following tasks through to completion. Ability to iterate on prior examples and develop strategy to drive processes to completion without defined step-by-step process.

  • Self-motivated, with ability to work efficiently independently or in a team environment

  • Proficiency in eDiscovery and/or alternative electronic document management platforms.

  • Advanced data analytics skills, as applied in Google Sheets and/or Excel.

  • Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Stress tolerance for deadlines and time management.

  • Advanced planning and organizational skills.


Travel Requirements: 5%

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.

Base Salary Range: $100,006-$137,509
