As a Laboratory Technician on this team, you will review consultations from other labs, evaluate paperwork for identifiers and complete data entry tasks. You will coordinate with leadership, supervisors, Pathologists and other lab reps to direct workflow and organize daily departmental functioning. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with some of the best Pathologists in the field within an innovative, constantly evolving healthcare enterprise.

A caregiver in this position works days| full-time| 7:00am—3:30pm. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform advanced manual processing and problem-solving techniques in laboratory accessioning/data entry, problem investigations and resolution. 

  • Be involved in creating slides and/or duties associated with the subspecialty client liaison. 

  • Be familiar with data analytics. 

  • Receive and accession specimens into the LIS. 

  • Conduct higher level accessioning in the LIS including esoteric testing. 

  • Conduct advanced tracking investigations. 

  • Serve as a subspecialty client liaison. 

  • Be responsible for advanced problem solving/issue resolution (pending log/SERS/block QA). 

  • The following duties are specific to Anatomic Pathology: perform tasks involved with creating slides and/or cell blocks, perform frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation), create cell block slides, clinical histology tissue embedding, and assist in cytology adequacy assessments. 

  • Prepare specimens for analysis.  

  • Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance). 

  • Run and resolve LIS logs. 

  • Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens. 

  • Perform logistic activities within and outside of lab. 

  • Use tracking software/devices. 

  • Comply with safety, SOP & regulations. 

  • Maintain appropriate documentation. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate Degree (preferably in science) 

  • Two years of lab processing experience  

  • Four years of lab technician or comparable processing experience (this may substitute the education requirement)  

  • Active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program may substitute the education and experience requirement  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Medical Laboratory Science (this may substitute the experience requirement)  

  • Prior laboratory experience (academic or professional) 

  • Research experience gained through coursework, independent projects, or internships 


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements.

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

  • Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.

  • Handles and transports bio-hazardous materials and potential carcinogens.

  • Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.

  • Ability to live/move up to 50 lbs.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
