McGill Institute for Advanced Materials
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains good working conditions of 4 pieces of equipment in MIAM Characterization Facility so that experiments can proceed: Nexsa G2 XPS, Bruker D8 Discover XRD, Bruker Senterra Confocal Raman Microscope, and Bruker Skysan High-Resolution MicroCT;
  • Opens and secures the area;
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly check and related alignment and calibration for the equipment;
  • Safely shuts down and restarts the equipment before and after maintenance or repair of Power/Water/Ventilation facilities by Building Services;  
  • Answers questions for general information related to equipment from internal users, academic staffs, and professors;
  • Provides troubleshooting services of equipment if incidents occur;
  • Contacts service engineers for advices or necessary visit calls for solving problems;
  • Reports to the lab management (the person in charge of lab, director of MIAM Characterization, and co-directors of MIAM) when serious issues occur.

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor in science or engineering an asset;
  • Must have well mastered the procedures for standard operating, safely starting and shutting down, and relative application software;
  • Demonstrated trouble-shooting skills and experience working in lab environment using related data collecting and data processing software.
