Why this role matters  

The Salvation Army (Salvos) understands that disasters and emergencies have a destabilising and traumatic impact on those affected. Our emergency and disaster response and recovery team can provide immediate financial and practical assistance for those impacted by significant natural or man-made disasters. Our SAES services provide immediate life sustaining support and by referral to other Salvation Army wrap around services holistic care that focuses on the restoration of physical, emotional, environmental, and economic well-being.

About the role 

As a Knowledge Management Specialist, this is your opportunity to develop processes and procedures that facilitate consistent best practice service delivery, develop material or collateral that support our practice, the development and implementation of a national SAES training program.

Reporting to the Program Manager, SAES, this is a full-time role contracted until November 2027 and can be based in Redfern, NSW or Blackburn, VIC.

How you will make an impact  

  • Develop and maintain knowledge systems and processes that support consistent practice, staff training and secure management of information across the organisation.

  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing by supporting staff, coordinating training and building and encouraging teams to use shared tools and resources.

  • Contribute to national planning by helping design and implement frameworks, operating models and training programs that guide SAES service delivery.

  • Provide specialist advice to service teams on systems, processes, policy implementation, outcomes measurement and content for tenders.

  • Monitor sector trends, support national outcome measurement work and help leaders strengthen collaboration across SAES and wider TSA teams.

What you will bring 

  • A Tertiary qualification in social work, welfare, community development or related field and significant relevant experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Australia’s disaster or emergency management sector

  • Strong communication skills to share knowledge, build relationships and deliver training.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in creating and delivering training content

  • Strategic thinking to align knowledge work with organisational goals.

  • Technical skills in knowledge and content management systems.

  • Project management capability to manage timelines, budgets and resources

  • Analytical skills and attention to detail to identify gaps, improve systems and maintain accurate documentation.

  • A current VIC employee Working with Children’s Check

Conditions

Compensation is in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Level 6
