Job Summary

  • The Kiln Operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment necessary to ensure that all kilns at the site are operating at optimum conditions (production rate/fuel efficiency/quality).

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Operate system within prescribed parameters as outlined in the SOP’s for HG and LG Kilns

  • Record production/process data as needed and perform regular quality checks per outlined procedure. The Kiln Operator must ensure  the required quality for kiln production as per published specifications.

  • Issue work requests for equipment/processes requiring maintenance

  • Correct if able or report any production issues as they are discovered 

  • The Kiln Operator will ensure communication is maintained between Mill & Kiln departments to stay aware of any production problems which may affect kiln operations

  • The Kiln Operator will coordinate the activities of the kiln assistant to ensure that the kiln area is maintained to an acceptable level as to not negatively impact production, Level 1 maintenance is performed, area and equipment inspections are regularly and thoroughly performed.

  • Ensure housekeeping is maintained in area of responsibility as per Imerys standards

  • Perform any additional duties as described by the Production Supervisor

Skills and Attributes Requirements

  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally or written

  • Must be able to work all shifts as per schedule

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted

  • Will be required to wear all necessary PPE 

  • Will require basic computer skills necessary to operate the Kiln Control Systems,  access/write emails, utilize Google/Microsoft software 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation

 

Education/Experience Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or GED. Technical education is preferred. 

Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job; the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise, outside weather in all conditions and materials used in the process.

  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting with exposure to all seasonal climatic conditions.

  • Occasionally lifting, carrying, and/or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.

  • Approximately 100% plant environment.
