The Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department (OTRD) is seeking a motivated Junior Web Developer to join our internal development team. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with Symfony (PHP), modern JavaScript frameworks, and responsive web design while contributing to projects that serve Oklahoma citizens and promote tourism statewide. This position will help maintain and enhance websites such as TravelOK.com, OklahomaToday.com, and microsites dedicated to Oklahoma’s parks and travel destinations. This is an on-site position in downtown Oklahoma City.
Participate in feature planning and implement enhancements using Symfony and modern JavaScript frameworks
Support ongoing website maintenance, including debugging and performance optimization
Implement responsive, accessible UI components following WCAG standards
Work with frontend templating frameworks and RESTful API integrations
Collaborate with designers and developers to ensure seamless user experiences
Review code from peers and participate in QA processes
Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one modern frontend framework (Vue.js or React)
Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming and PHP or another backend language
Understanding of accessibility standards and responsive web design (WCAG)
Basic understanding of databases
Ability to work independently and contribute to production-grade code
Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate in a team environment
Ability to commit to 40 hours/week
Familiarity with Jira or other project/task management tools
Experience with a templating engine such as Twig or Blade
Exposure to full-stack web development environments (LAMP stack)
Comfortable working with responsive frameworks and accessibility standards
