Job Description:

The Willits-Hallowell Center and Events Services Department is seeking Junior Waitstaff to provide quality service to all guests of Mount Holyoke College. Those in this role are responsible for quality, timely, courteous, and efficient service to guests, adhering to the standards established by management.

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Set up, serve, and clean both on-premise and off-premise functions.

  • Lift and carry trays weighing up to 30 pounds to and from dining areas.

  • Set up, refresh, and service meeting rooms with refreshments and linens as needed.

  • Clean up at the conclusion of meetings and events.

  • Occasional assistance in setting up function rooms, which involves moving tables and chairs, either within a room or to another location.

  • Pack, load, and unload Catering vehicles.

  • Work independently, exercise sound judgment, and exhibit initiative in performing daily duties.

  • Complete opening and closing shift side work.

  • Keep work areas and equipment clean and organized.

  • Communicate effectively with guests and co-workers.

  • Read and interpret event orders to determine set-up, service needs, and other duties the manager assigns.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with a sound understanding of the English language.

  • Ability to maintain an extraordinarily positive attitude towards others, especially when dealing with students and the public.

  • Must be cooperative and willing to work with others.

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Basic computer skills are desirable.

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. without aid.

  • Ability to routinely lift, bend, twist and stand for the majority of up to an 8-hour shift.
