As our Server Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and support of server infrastructures for South Africa. You will define, maintain, communicate, and implement standards consistent with established architecture and strategy.
Your Knowledge of Linux Fundamentals
Understanding of Linux distributions (Red Hat, Alma, CentOS, Debian, etc.)
File system structure and permissions
Basic command-line operations (navigation, file manipulation, process management)
System Administration Basics
User and group management
Package management (e.g., apt, yum, dnf)
Service management using system
Networking Essentials
IP Addressing, DNS, DHCP Basics
Configuring network interfaces. (e.g. iptables)
Basic troubleshooting with tools like Ping, netstats,ss,curl.
Security Fundamentals
Understanding of SSH and secure remote access
Basic firewall configuration (e.g., iptables, firewalld)
File permissions and ownership
Scripting & Automation
Basic shell scripting (Bash)
Familiarity with cron jobs for automation
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Using top, htop, df, du, journal for system health checks
Log analysis in /var/lo
